Home Automation Company - Lexington, KY
The story of Barney Miller's Not too many family businesses over nine decades. Current owner Barney Miller knows why. One reason is it's a friendly family business offering unmatched service. The other is that keeping on top of the latest technologies is something of a family tradition. His grandfather and namesake who founded the business was a graduate of MIT, and a HAM radio operator who served in the Army Signal Corps during World War I. In 1922, automobiles were sold without accessories like lights, windshield wipers, mirrors, seats and running boards. Seeing a good business opportunity, the first Barney Miller opened up a store to fill that need. A few years later, he was the first to bring radios and phonographs to Lexington. His son, Harry, saw his first prototype TV at 1939 New York Worlds' Fair. As soon as they came on the market, seven years later, he wasted no time placing an order for his store. Those 10" black and white TV's were the first in Kentucky, retailing for about $600 apiece. Harry sold Lexington's first TV to Warren Wright Jr. and installed it at Calumet Farm. This tradition of firsts is alive and well under the current Barney Miller who has headed up the company since the 1980's. Wandering the store as a child gave Barney an immersive experience in technology and first-hand look at how quickly technology changes. Under his leadership the company continues to move forward as the area's leading home entertainment and electronic systems specialist. Not only does Barney himself attend annual seminars, expos and training events, he sends his staff all over the nation to get the best continuing education from the most trusted manufacturers. The store has now evolved into an interactive showroom, allowing consumers to interact with what's new and what's next in home theaters, 3D and HD TV's, whole house audio/video, networking, security and custom electronics. Come visit our showrooms to test drive new technology before you buy. We're right on Main Street with free parking out back.
