Calabasas Wine Cellar Refrigeration System Installation Project

Mar 2016

A client from Calabasas City in Los Angeles called our team to have a cooling unit installed in their home. The challenge was to have it installed without visible wirings, ducts or any HVAC machinery. With this, we decided together to use a split type of cooling equipment - the Rack Mount Series 4600 refrigeration system. We placed the refrigeration unit into the ceiling and covered it with louvered grills for a clean and neat design. Instead of using ducts, a line set was used to connect the evaporator coil to the condensing unit. It has a hole that is around one to one and a half or two inches in diameter, small enough to be hidden from view. The condensing unit was installed outside the house. The line set was also covered to maintain the visual appeal of the home. Also, this wine cellar was at the center of the house. With no exterior walls, the line set cannot run to the outside of the home without it being seen. With this, we were able to use the space between the ceiling and the second floor to keep the pipes hidden. Minimal drilling was done, having our team to do only two small holes to have access inside the cellar. This is a piece of highly-reliable equipment as it can be adjusted to the cooling needs of any wine storage space. It has removable panels that allow air redirection fit for any design or layout of a cellar. Our team also insulated the suction lines because it is common for them to sweat on the outside if the air gets cold. Doing this prevents water from forming in the walls.
