Joe was initially hired to do flooring installation in a rental property renovation. When asked if he could also do ceramic tile, cabinet installation and finish carpentry, he assured us he could. He put in a bid for the job, complete with an itemized list, a total cost and a finish date. • He did not communicate well about problems that arose, and a month late, the project was still far from finished. • He reported that work was done and asked for several thousand dollars on tasks that were never completed. • He installed flooring early in the job, then did nothing to shield it from damaging traffic and wear. • Ceramic tile was installed over a new tub and shower pan with no protection from gritty shoes. The tile job was amateurish and shoddy. The water can run down the tile and go behind the tub, instead of into it. Linoleum glue was left on the base of the new tub. • Crown molding corners and seams didn't meet and were globbed with wood putty to try and hide it. The man he hired to do door frames made a mess of brand new paint and trim. Baseboard was cut too short and then patched with slices of wood and "repaired" with wood putty. • Brand new kitchen cabinets were nailed together with some of the nails protruded out the front of the cabinets, leaving scars in the face of the frames. Maybe Joe is a good flooring installer, but he was over his head with the rest of the job. When held accountable, Joe walked off the job without owning up to, nor fixing the disarray he had created. I would give him a B for his floor installation and a D- for the tile and carpentry. I would give him an F for integrity.
