Thornton Park Remodel | Dec 2014 | The project consisted of period home alterations and remodeling to an existing 1923 Florida Vernacular Bungalow style home in the Thornton Historic District. The intent was to design the project such that the additions and alterations are compatible and representative of the original 1920s structure. The owner of this 1923 Florida Vernacular Bungalow had painstakingly decorated the first floor of the original bungalow true to his Craftsman and Mission style esthete. Many of the furnishings were antiques from the height of the bungalow era. There had been an addition to the home in the 90's that at least somewhat kept to the Bungalow style on the outside, if not so much on the inside. This room was called the TV room and showcased the Owner's mementos from around the world and has served as his media room. There was also an area in the attic that had been enclosed by a previous owner for a media room. This room was the thorn in the owner's side. 98 square feet of the ceiling in this 323 square foot space was 6'-2" high at its highest spot. There was no natural light and the room could only be accessed by a pull-down attic ladder. The owner asked us if we could design a set of stairs in the TV room that would provide access to the enclosed attic space. It quickly became evident to us and the owner that just creating stairs up to the existing space did not make the room any more usable. The solution was to raise the roof line for headroom, add dormers for natural light and open the TV room below to the space above to create a sense of spaciousness. The result was a bright, open and spacious 430 square foot room with more than 350 square feet of 7'-0' plus head room. We also designed and created a custom craftsman style staircase with balcony railing and craftsman tudor style detailing throughout. We crafted all the woodwork out of quarter and rift sawn white oak and installed it with our own carpenters. | Orlando, FL | ||

Jeffers Residence | This home was fashioned in the Florida Cracker Style with a wide central hallway running from front to back of the house, sometimes called the dog-trot. Staying period correct, on the exterior we used novelty pine siding , exposed rafter tails for soffit, beadboard porch ceiling, tongue and groove pine porch flooring, wood windows and transoms with custom cypress trim made on site. The interior displayed a salvaged heart pine flooring, restored claw foot tub, period correct bath floor tiles, antique dresser vanity for guest bath and five-horizontal panel doors true to the early 1900's. | Orlando, FL |
