John is not a professional. My experience started with him promising to start building my stone wall week after week. He didn't actually show up at my house until three months later. On that day I wrote him a check for half the agreed upon price assuming he would begin work. Three months then went by with no sign of John. During that time he would continually call with excuses and promises to start the work. John did eventually start the work and when he got 75% of the way done he asked for the remaining balance plus 10% more than we agreed. Trusting him, and seeing the quality of his work, I wrote him the check. It has now been about eight months and my stone wall is still 75% complete. Not to mention all the dirt and trash is still in my driveway. John has called twice during that time, but simply to offer more excuses and broken promises to return. I also managed to track down another former client of his that had the same experience and who ended up hiring a reputable business to finish his work. Lastly, he committed insurance fraud by offering me proof of insurance for a policy that at the time of the project and to this day was and is not valid as confirmed by the insurance company. If he owns up to his mistakes and completes the work before I hire someone else to finish the job (which will be in the next two weeks) I will revise this post.
