Great Valley Lockshop lnstalls Keyless Entry System in OffCampus Housing

Jun 2014

Project Spotlight Great Valley Lockshop (GVL) was subcontracted by a private company to assist with wiring and installing 34 interior and exterior doors with card access security and emergency access into off-campus housing units for a Pennsylvania University. Locations This project took place in two locations. Phases 1 and 2 (out of 3) took place in Middletown, PA. Phase 3, which started in early 2014, is located in Harrisburg, PA. Advanced Technology In order to offer superior security and convenient features to the students living in these off-campus housing units, Great Valley Lockshop pre-wired 34 doors with Schlage battery powered locks. This particular model of Schlage locks can be operated by a smart phone, allowing students to enter and exit without the need for a physical key. These locks are also centrally managed by a computer, which makes controlling them simple and efficient. Working alongside the alarm contractor, GVL also ensured that all doors worked in conjunction with the alarm system so that they open quickly in emergency situations. Coordinated Effort With multiple sub-contractors on this project, Great Valley Lockshop had to communicate with multiple companies in order to make sure the entire project was not only complete, but performed up to the expectations of the general contractor and the client. Working alongside the fire alarm contractor, general contractor and door supplier, GVTs locksmiths kept the project moving along with minimal delays. Results Due to the fantastic results of the previous 2 phases, Great Valley Lockshop was hired for phase 3, which began in the winter of 2014 and is expected to complete in August 2014. Phase 3 includes installing similar locks and doors in an additional nine, off-campus housing units located in Harrisburg PA.

Electronic Locksets and Wire Transfer Devices for a large Pennsylvania University

Oct 2013

Scope of Work Great Valley Lockshop (GVL) was subcontracted by an Integration Company to Install Electric Locksets and Wire Transfer Devices in multiple gymnasiums across Pennsylvania for a large University. Locations Great Valley Lockshop dispatched our expert locksmiths directly to 18 satellite campuses across Pennsylvania including Abington, Altoona, Media, DuBois, Erie, Harrisburg, Hazleton, Lemont Furnace, McKeesport, Monaca, Mont Alto, New Kensington, Pittsburgh, Schuylkill Haven, Wilkes-Barre, Scranton and York. Expertise Needed GVL was hired by another security company (the primary contractor) as an Electronic Hardware Specialist to help convert the existing door locks to electric locks with card readers. The University requested that no magnetic locks be used for this project. Due to the primary contractors lack of experience in this area, they called on GVL for assistance. Design Flaws GVLs primary responsibility in this major project was to install the parts supplied by the primary contractor. After completing new lock installations at several sites, the primary contractor realized they ordered incorrect parts. GVL was then asked to help consult the primary contractor on the design to ensure a proper (and secure) installation of all remaining sites. Manpower During the fall and winter of 2013, GVL designated 2 locksmiths to this project, each working on site, 3 days a week. With 18 campuses with gymnasium facilities across Pennsylvania and between 12 to 15 doors at each site, this project not only required our expertise and manpower, but a significant amount of travel time. Results In the end, Great Valley Lockshop was able to provide expertise and manpower to the primary contractor along with improved security to the Universitys maintenance and police departments without inconveniencing or interrupting their day to day activities. With the final site in Dubois scheduled to be completed in June of 2014, GVL has met every deadline with minimal punch list items.

Great Valley Lockshop Completes Large Rekey Project for Global Pharmaceutical Company in Bridgewater, NJ

Apr 2008

Project Spotlight Large Rekey Project for a Global Pharmaceutical Firm Location Bridgewater, NJ Security Concerns Great Valley Lockshop (GVL) was called to bid on a large rekey project for a global pharmaceutical research company in 2007. This company, located in Malvern, Pennsylvania had been a customer of GVL since 1987 and had recently acquired a new building in Bridgewater, New Jersey. Due to changes in ownership and lack of a correct key control system, the customer had no control of their master key system in the new building. Winning Bidder GVL, working with lock manufacturer Schlage, completed a site survey of every door in the building that had a lock. More than 2300 locks were counted and included in the bid on a per unit basis. Although bidding against local locksmiths located in New Jersey and Bridgewater specifically, GVL was able to win the bid, which was more than $500,000. Solution Due to the quantity of doors in this new building, GVL was unable to match the model of the keying system used in this Malvern, Pennsylvania office. As a solution to this problem, GVL Locksmiths were able to reverse engineer the current keying system in the new building and develop 2 different master key systems. To keep costs down, GVL replaced the locks in normal offices with a restricted type of key cylinder. For administration and secure offices, GVL replaced the entire lock on each door with a patented, high security Schlage Primus Restricted keyway system. These new key systems were designed to accommodate expansion in the future and included 4 keys with each lock. These 4 keys ensured management would not have to worry about making copies for keys for years to come. Results After receiving the factory order in December 2007, GVL was able to start installing the locks in January 2008. This process of replacing 2300 locks took two locksmiths working two days per week for 4 months. The project was complete in April 2008, ahead of schedule and $50,000.00 under budget
