When you decide to hire a general contractor to perform a renovation or remodel to your home, you really can’t do much better than Custom Dwellings. Following a very poor experience with another contractor that we eventually had to fire, Custom Dwellings was recommended to my wife and I. We contacted them and made an appointment for one of the co-owners, Mr. Russell Ives, to come to our home to see what we had planned and if they could provide us with the service that we required for such a large scale job. Russell immediately put us at ease and understood our needs and concerns. His wife, Stephanie, then met with my wife to discuss design plans for our remodel and like her husband, she knew what we needed. We had previously hired, at our former contractor’s recommendation, an interior designer. Stephanie understood what a family of four utilized in their daily lives and created designs that were stylish but most importantly—practical. The previous designer was designing for a magazine layout. Once we settled on the designs, all logistical concerns were dealt with, and the contract and down payment was made, work commenced exactly when stated. Their project manager, Mr. Mike Mitchler, was onsite daily and was a wealth of information and a calming force. We contracted for a major renovation and there were a few days of intense stress. Mike always managed to keep his eye on the prize and kept us sane. Now, that’s not to say there weren’t any hiccups along the way. There were, but unlike our previous contractor, no matter the size of the problem, it was dealt with in a timely and professional manner. When you are dealing with a project of the size we had, nothing is going to be 100% perfect all of the time and that is just a fact of life. But whenever something came up that wasn’t to either of our satisfaction, Mike dealt with it and that was always followed up with a personal visit from Russell to make sure that we were happy. That type of customer service goes a long way. There were multiple moving parts and at no point did we feel that there was ever a lack of control. All of the sub-contractors were professional and courteous. We were kept appraised of any delays that may occur and were also encouraged when ways were found to cut some time or save some money and not sacrifice any of the quality of work that we were seeing. In the end, the physical renovation took place from 4/7/19-7/24/19 and we couldn’t be happier. If you are looking for a company to perform a remodel on your home, don’t make the mistake we did.
