Fox Valley Electric on Bull Valley Road in McHenry. This little Mom and Pop Shop in McHenry was the most unprofessional company that I have ever dealt with. The only reason that I went with them was because the company who was installing my pool recommended them. To begin with, they would not come out to my home to give me a quote on the electrical work needed for the pool install. That should have been my first clue. Instead, the owner quoted me over the phone saying that most pools need about 40' of electrical so he gave me a quote over the phone for $800. He also said that some inspectors in McHenry require bonding and some do not. It would be $6/ft. if needed, but we would worry about that later. Fox Valley Electric (FVE) that is not true. I asked the City Inspector and he said that it is McHenry City Code that all pools in McHenry be bonded. You are from McHenry Fox Valley Electric, you should have known that. You are either very inexperienced or dishonest. As a single woman, when I hire a professional I expect to be told what is need and how much it is going to cost so that I can plan and budget accordingly. You can imagine my surprise when I received the bill for $2,305! For the 6 hours of work, that figures out to $384/hr. Are you kidding me? In addition, 1 worker was passed out cold on my lawn for ½ the afternoon. They cut our ComCast wire late on a Friday afternoon and left my family without TV and Internet for the entire weekend. JULIE had already been out and marked 2 times. They didn’t mount the light switch on the pole and left it laying on the ground. My yard was totally trashed and the backfilling was terrible. I asked the worker if he was going to bury the bonding wires that were exposed on the ground. He told me no, argued with me about it and then told me to throw stone over it, as that is what most people do. I told him I was not going to throw stone over it. I wanted them buried. He did end up burying about ¾ of it. I buried the rest myself. All-in-all I was very dissatisfied with Fox Valley Electric in McHenry and would never recommend them to you. I called to complain about these things to the owner and he had 101 excuses for everything. Including telling me that if he would have come out to give me a quote he would have charged me for a service call. Who does business that way? He even went so far as to tell me that he “hears it all the time”. Gee…. You think you might be doing something wrong Fox Valley Electric? Fox Valley Electrical made nothing right for me, however, they did issue me a “Courtesy Credit” of $125 to cover the cost of ComCast to come out and rewire.

Electrician was courteous, timely, and did a great job at a great price. Would use Fox Valley Electric again.
