Mr. Rooter Plumbing of McHenry County

Get a detailed quote prior to service! Mr. Rooter was at our home to replace a leaky ball valve in our basement. They stayed for exactly 1hour (20 minutes actual service, 40 minutes to wait for the water to be turned back on) and as a result, I was charged $570. I requested a detailed invoice and was not provided with one. I discussed with another contractor and looked online to find that the cost of the part (retail) was $30. When I called to request a breakdown of services, the woman was extremely rude on the phone. She basically told me the cost was not about the labor or the part (two items I have always been billed for as a standard by contractors elsewhere) but instead the cost was I was paying was for their extensive expertise. She basically told me I could go to school and see what it cost to learn the skill and then decide what it was worth. I found that to be extremely condescending and found her apathetic nature and curt tone to be a huge disservice to a customer who was simply trying to get a cost breakdown. Shouldn't the cost be representative of the individual job and not a blanket upcharge for the technician's skill level? That didn't seem like an unreasonable ask to me, but apparently expecting to pay based on a labor rate and material cost is not how they operate and makes me the bad guy. She invited me to leave a negative review if I wasn't happy, which I'm not, so here we are. I sincerely hope she reads this.
