We scheduled a move with Heritage about a month ago. When we called to receive an estimate, we told Lisa that we had a three bedroom house and started listing “all of the things that couldn’t fit in a box” per her request. We told her about what furniture we had, about our home gym equipment, and anything else we could think of. Lisa then started listing common household items and we answered “yes” or “no.” Lisa also asked if we had any totes. I said yes, and she asked if we had more than 15, which I answered YES-we probably had 30 or so but she didn’t ask any further questions. We were quoted $5,177 for our move from Fort Benning, GA to Fort Carson, CO. We disclosed that we are a military family and that we would be reimbursed for the move. When the movers got there, they seemed shocked at the amount of stuff we had. They were told that there were only 30 ITEMS TOTAL to be moved, had no idea about the gym equipment, and seemed flustered. I’ve used movers before and answered similar questions to what Lisa asked me and had no issues, so I didn’t think anything of it. Heritage charges an extra however much per cubic foot over the estimate, so our move ended up being a whopping $11,000. I feel like this company saw an opportunity to make more money and didn’t feel bad about it since we were supposed to be reimbursed. However, the army only reimburses $1/lb, and since we only had 9,000 lbs to be moved, we were out $2,000 that we never planned on paying. Can you imagine if we were NOT being reimbursed? Quoted $5,000 and ended up paying $11,000! Wow. I called a few days after our stuff was delivered in CO and spoke with a manager named Henry (or so I was told later, someone I spoke with said Henry was the only male manager). Three pieces of furniture were broken and I had questions about filing a claim. I also brought up the fact that we felt cheated and that it was unacceptable that our move ended up being over double what was estimated. During this conversation, Henry kept interrupting me and insinuated that we didn’t tell the truth about how much stuff we had and blamed us for “messing up their schedule.” All we did was answer the questions Lisa asked during the estimate process, so I’m not sure how we would lie about it. I insisted that they were the professionals and I assumed they had the information they needed to complete the move. I also told them I would have understood if the estimate was off by a couple thousand—no problem. But DOUBLE? Henry said he would listen to the recorded estimate conversation between us and Lisa to determine next steps. He claimed he would call me back within a few days, but it’s been two weeks and I’ve heard nothing. I’ve called multiple times and left multiple messages with no response. I even called a few hours ago and was told “Henry just got here, I’ll let him know you called and he will be with you when he gets settled” and still haven’t heard back. This review is my attempt to get someone’s attention and to warn others. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR MOVE. Although, I would like to add that the gentlemen who picked up our stuff in GA were nothing but lovely and hard working. Best wishes to them.

We hired Heritage Moving for our move from NC to FL in Aug 2021. My initial communication was with Lisa, the “General Manager.” She said all the right things and promised me the world! I did my research ahead of time and made sure to ask all the specific questions to make sure there would be no surprise charges. I had a FaceTime call with Lisa on more than one occasion to go through my entire home. We also made a list of every item that would not fit into a box. She provided a binding estimate, based upon cubic footage. We discussed all the items that the movers would be and would not be able/willing to transport. It’s important to note that I specifically discussed with Lisa transporting all of our unopened liquor bottles from our full bar, which she said was no problem as long as they were sealed. On the moving day the movers showed up 4 hrs later than they promised and worked until almost midnight. Their shirts read “Cross State Movers” and the truck was an Enterprise rental with a magnet on the door. As we did the initial walk-through of the house they were visibly surprised by the size of the home and the amount of belongings and seemed genuinely unprepared. They got right to work, packed all my belongings with care, and seemed to do a great job disassembling and wrapping the furniture. Late in the afternoon, once they loaded about ¾ of the truck, Kevin came to me to say that our belongings were going to take up much more space than was estimated and said he wouldn’t know how much more until they were done loading the next day, but there would be additional charges. I called Lisa many times, and when I finally got her on the phone she hung up on me. I then called Megan Berger, the owner, and she was unwilling to honor the estimate and I was told I could either pay the additional charges or my belongings would be unloaded onto my driveway. I ended up paying over $3,000 additional, and the movers told me that my belongings were being stored "nearby” but couldn’t provide the name of the storage facility. I ended up needing to have my belongings in storage for a few additional days past the free 30 days, and I received a bill for over $1,100 and was told they do not pro-rate storage, which contradicted what Lisa originally told me. On the delivery day two guys arrived and had me sign a document stating all items were present and in good condition before they were willing to open the truck. Once everything was unloaded we realized all the boxes containing the sealed liquor bottles, totaling about $4,000, were missing. The mover texted Megan and her response was “we don’t transport alcohol so it most likely wouldn’t have been loaded, but if it was loaded by mistake then it would have been discarded.” None of our boxes were labeled and the only people who would know the contents of the boxes were the original movers, who packed the boxes. I called Megan and she hung up on me. I was told by Barbie in the office that she would have someone go by the storage facility and re-trace steps to find the boxes and I never heard back from her. I asked to document on the form I signed that those items were missing and was told by the mover that Megan would not allow that. We called the police and filed a police report to document it instead. We also realized after the movers were gone that many screws were missing from all of our bed frames and each bed frame only had 3-4 screws and much of the furniture was very poorly assembled. The initial deposit I paid, over $5,000, and the additional fee I paid on the day of the move, over $3,000, were made on a credit card. I contacted my credit card company and filed a dispute and was credited a portion of the funds back to me for this company’s fraudulent activity. It is illegal to increase charges of a binding estimate after the truck is loaded. All of the shady tactics this company used are common with moving company scams. Unfortunately Megan and her employees are very skilled in scamming their customers. I just hope that my review helps someone else steer clear of this fraudulent company.
