I hired Campbell Home Repair and Renovations to install approximately 3 ft of drywall, a doorframe and a door in an open doorway between the closet and the bathroom. I was given an on-site quoted price that I thought was a professional estimate. I hired the company based on that number, their availability and timeline to get the work done. The owner indicated that he would send a proposal over, but he did now and I didn’t question it. In hindsight, I knew that Porch vetted so I assumed the caliber of service was increased. After forgetting that he booked the job on the scheduled day, he sent the crew over late when rescheduling the date wasn’t an option for me. The final kicker was the actual cost of the UNFINISHED work was more than double the initial price quote. The total cost was provided after the work was completed. I expected that costs could change a bit from the estimate, but anything more than 20%ish more expensive when there were no unexpected problems that arose and the work is only a couple weeks later so there’s no real change in the market is a good indicator that he doesn’t know the business or lowballed me on the quote to rip me off. He alleges he sent the proposal containing the actual numbers to the wrong email address. When I said that no customer should find out after the work is done that the cost is double the quoted price, he apologized for sending the proposal to the wrong address and suggested that in the future I get written contracts. Based on that, I’m leaning towards lowballed to ripoff.
