Vicki Donovan is co-owner of Hearthstone Interior Design. She's been a Tennessee resident her whole life and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design. Vicki has loved interior design her whole life. At the age of eight, she would keep boot boxes and turn them into model homes. Earlier in her career, she worked as a photo stylist for Nashville Home and Garden magazine, where she says she learned to look at a room and see how to turn it into something worthy of a magazine cover. Today, she's thrilled to be doing what she loves. Vicki's philosophy is that everyone deserves a beautiful home and money should have nothing to do with it. She's designed a flat fee pricing structure of $750 per room. Even if your room takes 30 hours, you'll only pay the one fee. Vicki also offers consultations for do-it-yourselfers at $75 an hour. Nashville Home Office | Nov 2013 | Sometimes, you just find yourself out growing a particular space. That was the case with this project. Our client needed more filing space, storage and wanted to freshen up their work space. Our budget was rather small. So, starting completely over was not an option. We removed the doors from the closet. Purchased a used lateral file cabinet and had it repainted. I had my carpenter build shelving around the file cabinet. We added crown moulding, a decorative ceiling detail, and new paint colors gave this space a breath of fresh air. | $4k | Nashville, TN | |
Nashville Master Bath Renovation | Jul 2012 | Most homeowner's want to own a luxurious master bathroom. Let's say one that has a double vanity, a separate shower, a private toilet area, and maybe a large tub. If your home came with these features, great, but if it didn't, and you are looking at renovating your bathroom, many times you will find that your space is too small to accommodate these features comfortably? My question to you is, why have a tub that is too short in length to use, or a shower that fit's you like a coffin. What good is a vanity with two sinks and no counter space. Let's not forget about that private toilet space that has the world's smallest toilet in it. I had a client who was a teacher who felt as if he was in "time out" whenever he used that space. What I'm trying to say is you can't always get what you want. So, you need to decide what is more important to you, a large tub or a large shower. Do you need more counter space? How much storage do you need? Can you accommodate a larger toilet? If so what needs to change to make it work? What is your budget? These are only a few questions that you should ask yourself before you renovate your bathroom. This particular client had some issues with his knees so we decided to install a curb-less shower with a large seat to make it easier to enter and exit. We chose a vanity with only one sink to give us more usable counter space. A small closet was installed to give him more storage options. The ceiling decor makes our space appear taller than it really is. Last but definitely not least, we chose a larger comfort height toilet. To do this we had to remove the entry wall to the private toilet space. So you see you can't always get what you want but, if you try real hard you'll get what you need. My question to you is, why have a tub that is too short in length to use, or a shower that fit's you like a coffin. Nashville Office/Den | Oct 2011 | Every project presents a set of unique challenges and that was the case of this project. This particular client needed a space that could be an office, a place to watch a 50 inch TV, and it needed to house over 3,000 books. Did I mention that this all needed to fit inside a rather small guest room? To make the most of every inch we decided to remove the closet. This allowed us to gain 14 extra square feet of floor space. This room had a flat 8 foot ceiling. So, we decided to heighten the space by creating a coffered looking ceiling. To do this our contractor installed drywall boxes between the ceiling rafters. Higher ceilings will make a room appear larger. Next, we had our contractor build bookshelves that wrapped around two walls and it had to allow for our 50 inch TV to pop up out of a 6 foot television cabinet. Our client already owned the bulk of the furniture. We only added the rug, plant stand, mirror, sofa, map print, and the revolving bookcase. Proving that a small room can be multi-functional. | $28k | Nashville, TN |
