Eric Smith of Iron Work Horse Handyman Service performed the installation of crown, door casing, and baseboard molding in our master bedroom. I should have looked at previous molding trim jobs he had done before hiring him. After miss-cutting a 16' section of crown molding Eric was good enough to pay for a new length of molding and the crown molding part of the installation looks good. He did not, however, install the door trim properly and each of the 3 doors had 1/2" to 3/4" reveals between the head casing pieces and the top of the door frame; the instructions that came with the casing kits stipulate a 1/4" reveal like the rest of the doors in my house have. While installing the baseboard he made a butt joint two inches from the closet door. I would have preferred the joint be made somewhere in the middle of the run using a 45 degree joining cut. I wish he had come and discussed with me the non-standard installation procedures before he had performed them. The lesson learned is always check out previous work of the contractors you consider hiring.
