Home Restoration | Feb 2015 | Home Remodeling turns into a Home Restoration. This 1960 home was bought in October 2013, the plan was to redo the 1st floor windows and doors, repair an ongoing water leak in the basement, remodel the kitchen, and give the house an open floor plan. shortly after the remodeling started, 3 large cracks in the foundation were found, which meant excavating the front of the house to the far left side and around the corner. 2 engineers were brought in to evaluate the soil under the footings and to access the structural needs to stabilize the foundation. the results were that the soil had been back filled during the original construction of the house and that helical supports would have to be installed every 5 feet, to a depth that would place the supports on bedrock or once the supports had the desired torsion placed on them. once the foundation had been stabilized a new front stoop was added, Foundation was waterproofed with an EPDM Membrane and Mirra Board to direct the water away from the foundation, all new windows & doors were installed on the 1st floor, walls between the family room & kitchen were removed, the wall between the dining room & kitchen were removed, the back stair way was opened up & a 1st step volute was added, floors were patched & refinished and a Contemporary Kitchen was installed | $179k | Stamford, CT | |
