Pavers, Travertine, Cultured Stone

Sep 2013

We worked on 3 different surfaces at this home, Travertine Stone, Cultured Stone, and Brick Pavers. The Travertine and parts of the pool deck pavers had a bad weed problem. We deep cleaned all surfaces and followed up with a high quality weed killer to the troubled areas -- double dosing the travertine joints because they are open/non-sanded joints. Then when dry, we re-sanded the paver joints and began sealing all of the surfaces with the same Solvent Based Acrylic Sealer in 3 different styles of application.

Stone Sealing

Jan 2013

The front entrance to a home was beautifully laid sandstone slate rock. It was in constant need of pressure washing due to mold/mildew on the stone and in the grout. We cleaned and sealed the area mainly for the beauty, and low maintenance that the sealer provides. The largest benefit for the customer though is that by deeply penetrating these wide grout lines it will greatly protect the grout from breaking down.

Re-Set Improperly Installed Pavers

Jan 2012

The pavers on this driveway were not properly installed and after 5 years they began to shift in a turn-around area of the drive where vehicle brakes were constantly applied. I was called to see what could be done. A prior repair was made and it failed also. I was hired to re-set the pavers in that area. I left the border pavers in place while I began cleaning, removing, and stacking the pavers that had shifted working my way up the drive, keeping myself a large enough work area for leveling. When the pavers were all level and placed, I removed the border pavers. Then I dug a trench 3 inches below grade for the length of the border area and filled the trench with concrete and set the pounded the border pavers in place & into the concrete "beam" that I poured. Then detailed the concrete at a 45 outside the borders. Now the border pavers are properly set & the drive can no longer shift. The wide concrete edge that you see was the improper repair that was done prior. All they did was put a little concrete edge outside the border and the width of the border pavers. I do not have an "after" photo for this project, but I think you can get an Idea of how the project was done by the pictures that I did post.

Paver Sealing

Mar 2011

The homeowner called asking if I was able to save his pavers, or if they needed to be replaced because they seemed to have lost most of the color. When I arrived the pavers were extremely dirty, mildewed, and weeds were everywhere, The original colors in the pavers appeared to be gone. I assured them that I could bring the pavers "back to life" and restore the original color. When we finished the project the customer told me that the pavers had never looked that good!

Large pavers with very wide sand joints

Jan 2010

The customer had laid the pavers himself and planned to seal them also. He called me with some questions about how to keep the pavers and the sand from movement and washout. I stopped by to give him my opinion and advice and he wound up hiring me to sand the joints and seal the paver stones. The key to locking in these wide sand joints was to use the proper type of sand and to be sure to flood and penetrate my sealer deep into the sand joints, followed by my standard sealing process. I visited the property 3-1/2 years later and it still looked great, and the sand was still locked in place.
