Interior Designer - New York, NY
The New York City-based firm Marks & Frantz Design was founded in 2009 by principals Lydia Marks and Lisa Frantz. The great range of their commissioned work in residential, commercial, film and television design illustrates the firm's versatility. While the projects may seem far ranging, what they all have in common is a core Marks & Frantz Design philosophy with three pillars: 1. Everyone wants to live with happiness, beauty and a touch of whimsy. 2. Glamour and elegance aren't just for the movies. They can co-exist comfortably with functionality and can be part of everyday life. 3. Choosing and living with things you truly love is the best foundation for a design. Lydia Marks came to design via a career in fine arts, including a stint at MoMA. She segued into film, where her fashion-infused set decoration for major motion pictures created a demand for private residential commissions. Hospitality projects soon followed, notably her innovative design for the rooftop bar at The Strand Hotel. Lisa Frantz started out in journalism as an editor for various top fashion magazines. Her talent for creating compelling visual stories evolved into a career in set design for film, television and advertising. Lisa's work for blue-chip clients including Saks Fifth Avenue, Wyndham Hotels, Neiman Marcus and Vanity Fair attracted the attention of the producers, directors and actors on set. They commissioned her for their own private interiors and a lineup of residential and commercial clients ensued. Marks & Frantz's work has been featured in media such as The New York Times, Traditional Home, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Refinery29 and Architectural Digest. It may also be enjoyed on the small and large screen, in the recent redesign of The Today Show as well as many high-profile feature films including The Devil Wears Prada and both Sex and the City films.
