2 minutes ago (Google review) Steve Hunter and his Father John Hunter robbed us. My husband and I worked hard throughout our marriage to save money and live simply. After 31 years of marriage we realized the dream of having our old worn down home refreshed with siding among other much needed repairs. We were robbed of $30,000 and our house sits wrapped in plastic sheets exposed to the elements for the past 9 months. He was also a friend with whom we trusted. He might as well have come into our home and robbed our belongings. My husband and I have been victimized. The emotional toll it has taken on us cannot be measured. Getting ourselves to go to work everyday is only by God’s strength. Our money is gone. We know that God is good and will get us through this. I do not want to see anymore victims of this crime. Having your phone calls and texts ignored for month after month has been horrible. Please protect yourselves and spread this review so he and his father cannot victimize anymore people. The company is MJH Renovations.

I hired MJH Renovations in July of 2018 to build an addition on to my existing residence. Steve Hunter and his father John came out to start the job. They came for approximately two weeks to begin the project. They dug the foundation. At this point, I asked if I could expand the addition to include more space. By this time, I could not get a hold of Steve, John was in charge of the job. I asked John on three separate occasions if I could make the addition bigger. He said there was not way because of the ground absorption rules for the township. I believed him and let them continue. They came and poured the concrete and then I could not get a hold of anyone at the company for two weeks. While no one was answering, we had a large rainstorm where water came in the kitchen from the side of the house. There was water dripping from the ceiling. John did come over to patch the leak, and said they would fix the kitchen ceiling. While trying to contact both Steve and John, I decided to check with township about how big the addition could be. They gave me the measurements as to the max and said nothing about ground absorption. When I finally got a hold of John, I told him this and that I wanted to change the plans to make the addition bigger. We came up new contract on 10/1/18. They told me I needed new drawings and new permits. With some delays from the township, it was not until 10/30/18 the new plans were approved. While all of this was going on, subcontractors came to the house and put the roof on. They removed some pieces of siding from the upstairs bathroom window causing water to come into the house in both the upstairs and downstairs bathroom. I had to beg for three weeks for someone to come tarp the house. Once they did this, the bathroom was still leaking. It is still leaking today 4/28/19. They finally poured the new footer on 11/20/18. There was some discussion and disagreement as to where the new part was ending. It was finally settled on 12/4/18 with another new contract to include additional footage. By this point, I had paid Steve approximately 50,000 and I had three walls and a concrete floor. Steve was impossible to get a hold of. He had a new excuse each week. Someone died, or he had a doctor’s appointment or his wife did. On 12/18, I wrote him a check for 4,000 and signed a final agree stating the job would be done 12/31/18 weather permitting. There was a $250 a day penalty for anything past this date. The workers did not show up again. At this point, I did not want to give him any more money. He asked for a payment of 1,600 and I refused because it seemed like my payments were so far ahead of the work completed. He would not come back to work and said I was in violation of the contract. To make sure I had done everything I was supposed to do, I handed over the payments with the hopes he would come back and finish. I tried to call Steven, and John repeatedly during this time period, but they refused to answer. Steven began telling me all of the delays were my fault because I changed the measurements of the addition. I believe that if John would have checked in the beginning when I made the original request before the concrete was ever poured as to what the township rules were, all of these future delays would have been avoided. For the entire month of February, Steve was not around. I would get cryptic messages from who knows who from his phone saying Steve would call me. He never did. Finally in the beginning of March, Leon, an employee of Steve’s started coming back to the house to do some work. Steve would not speak to me at this point at all. Leon came and framed up the rest of the house and put the roof on the addition. He ran the electric and did the insulation of the room. Then he hung the dry wall. As the contract states, after the dry wall is hung, a $7,500 payment is due. I refused to pay this because again I was so far ahead of the payments. He stopped coming back to the job and has not returned to finish. We had a meeting about the progress of the job on 4/4. At this point the agreement was to come up with a new contract for payments that would reflect what was left. Steve was getting an HVAC guy to come out and fix the heater issues. He was going to send me the electricians name and who did the electrical inspection. Steve did not send an HVAC guy to do any work and therefore I did not get a new contract drawn up. When I asked about the electrician and the inspections he told I did not need to know. It would all pass final inspection. It was none of my business who was doing the work. While all this was happening, Steve had stored my washer and dryer. I have asked for them to be returned numerous times and he has not done so yet. I have not had a washer or dryer since 8/2018. Since they removed the room where the heater, hot water and washer and dryer, the heater was taken out too. When it started to get cold, in October/November, I asked him if they could temporarily stage the heater for the winter. Steve brought an HVAC guy to come in and hook it up. They changed the direction it was facing since it was meant to be temporary. There was a roof on part of the addition and a tarp on the other half. The heater was under the roof. At one point in the winter, the wind blew the pilot out and I could not reach Steve. I had to call a separate HVAC company to come and turn it back on. When this company came out, the man told me that the set up was very dangerous and could possibly catch fire and they refused to turn the heat back on. Instead of b-vent, they used dryer vent. Steve did come out that night to fix the problem. He installed a new vent. When Leon returned in March, he said it would be more money to change the direction of the heater and he could not do it. He vented it through the roof. When they were hanging drywall in the back, the heater stopped working again. Again I called an HVAC company and had them come look at it. They again said it was dangerous. Still the piping was not correct and the vent out the roof was wrong. Leon did come and fix both of these problems, but I know he is not a certified HVAC person and I am not sure if they are fixed correctly. Currently my heater is still not working. When it got really cold in January, my water pipes froze. The water meter cracked. John came out and put a heating cord on it and replaced the water meter with a straight pipe. It still has not been fixed. As of right now, I have a room with no doors, windows, lights, floor, HVAC or water hook up. I also have siding hanging from the side of my house. The roof still leaks water into my both bathrooms. Steve will not come back to work unless I pay him another 7,000.
