Furniture Refinishing

Jan 2016

Q&A Building also has spent many years learning how to properly refinish your antique and custom furniture. All refinishing services are done in our shop, after we have researched the wood, style, and correct tools and materials. We work hard to ensure that the style of craftsmanship and attributes match your piece or are the updates that you are looking for! We always encourage you to come by during the process and learn how the process works. As a family owned business, you might even see one of our children working with us (but they always practice on our materials!)

Energy Audit

Jan 2016

We are lucky to have a number of customers call us to perform an energy audit, to find out ho exactly we can improve the air quality in their home and save them money on heating and cooling costs. We love doing these because we can pinpoint the areas of concern and come up with effective, cost efficient ways to fix the issues. We are also happy to partner with efficiency Maine in order to help our customers find rebates, tax incentives, and low interest energy loans.

Tiny (guest) House

Oct 2015

As interest and practicality of "tiny houses" are increasing, we were happy to take this project on. We recieved a call from a home owner who wanted to create a tiny house for "guests." These "guests" turned out to be a college age child who moved home every summer and wanted their room back, but Mom had turned into her craft sanctuary (oh I cant wait for that!) So we rose to the occasion, creating this charming house nestled in the back. With an upstairs sleeping loft, fully functional compact kitchen, ductless heating/cooling system, sitting area, and chemical toilet. The custom wall panels were insulated with roxul & spray foam with Anderson windows and doors.

House Renovation

Sep 2015

This was a antique home on the coast of Maine. After years of salt water air penetrating the house there was damage from the ground up. We were able to demo the inside and transform it into a beautiful home and office. The outside also got an overhaul with new framing where needed and beautiful cedar clapboards. The home was re insulated with blown in cellulose and air sealing where needed. Replacement windows and doors help the owners save on heating and cooling costs while adding beauty and plenty of natural light with seeping views of the best Maine has to offer.

Creating a Usable Sun Room!

Sep 2015

This project included creating a completely new space for our customer to enjoy the four beautiful seasons of Maine. We attached a new slab with radiant heat, constructed a 10X12 room with custom milled pine, over-sized double insulated windows, and built in storage. The addition of a pellet stove in the next room heated the existing area and the new space, which also had an large ceiling fan to properly circulate air no matter what season! The walls were insulated with roxul and spray foam.

Tile Shower in Bathroom Remodel

May 2015

We perform lots of bathroom and kitchen remodels for our customers, this specific project remains one of our favorite though! The homeowners knew they wanted a full tile shower, but were unsure of the design, we helped them to choose a tile that complemented the rest of the bathroom and went to work! The outcome was stunning, easy to clean, and most of all everything they didn't know they wanted! It is always an honor to have have creative and intuitive ideas welcome into someones home.

Attic Conversion

Nov 2014

This call came from a old Maine farmhouse owner who wanted to convert their unused attic space into a rental apartment. We were able to turn a previously unused, drafty attic into a contemporary, cozy 2 bedroom apartment. The house was south facing so we were able to bring in tons of natural light with the addition of windows, structurally the house was incredible sound and able to support kitchen, bathroom, and laundry facilities. As you can see the outcome has been well received and works well for the homeowner and new tenants!

Summer Patio

Jun 2014

As the warm weather moves in, Mainers want to get out and enjoy! We have been part of many builds that include or are focused on outside spaces. This particular call came from a woman who had only concrete steps leading to her back yard and she wanted a full deck where she and her guests could enjoy the great outdoors, with detailed plans and a solid budget we were able to anchor and build this area, that we have been back to visit often!
