AKSARBEN CONCRETE Estimate - KK1004 Review Heading - BUYER BEWARE! BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: The name AKSARBEN Concrete is misleading as they seem to be job brokers. The actual concrete work, in my case, was done by a subcontractor (AMANCO Concrete) whose crew was mostly illegal aliens. CRONOLOGY: On 12-May-2022 (Thursday) I accepted AKSARBEN Concrete’s bid to replace my driveway and sidewalk after checking their BBB rating and verifying they were in fact licensed and insured. They were not the lowest bidder, but Kirk was prompt and professional in his presentation as was the bid sheet he provided. He advised the entire job would be completed in one day (Wednesday, June 8, 2022) weather permitting. Here is a ‘recap’ of what turned into a miserable seven (7) day project: 08-June-2022 (Wednesday): 1) 09:00 AM: Came outside my house to find AMANCO Construction workers and equipment with a crew of ‘illegal aliens’, not AKSARBEN Concrete, tearing out my driveway; obviously, the job was sub-contracted. 2) Driveway and sidewalk concrete removed and piled at the curb. 3) Blue PVC pipe under driveway for zone-5 of my sprinkler system cut in half by Bobcat operator. 4) Last sprinkler head on West end of zone-1 cut with concrete saw. 5) Crushed limestone delivered and piled at curb spilling on to the right-of-way grass. 6) Project was delayed until the next day as dirt under the concrete was wet and needed to dry. 09-June-2022 (Thursday): 1) Crushed limestone base laid and compacted. 2) Grass & soil around driveway and sidewalk removed (exposing marked sprinkler heads) and piled at the curb. 3) Forms installed and leveled for drainage. 4) Rebar laid. 5) Texted the project foreman (Ray) at AKSARBEN Concrete to request two additional sidewalk panels be removed & replaced. 6) Poured and finished concrete. 7) Concrete from driveway and sidewalk hauled away. Review Heading - BUYER BEWARE! 10-June-2022 (Friday): 1) Forms removed. 2) No backfill of voids left from removing forms. 3) Crew used water hose and self-propelled concrete cart to clean hand tools. Water/concrete residue then poured onto the pile of topsoil and grass clods which should have been used to backfill around driveway and sidewalk. 4) 5:30 PM AMANCO dump-truck driver arrived and used Bobcat to load concrete soaked topsoil, grass clods and remaining concrete residue into dump truck and drove away. 5) 6:00 PM, I raked the entire work area and cleaned up dirt clods, concrete residue, and fist size ‘chunks’ of concrete left behind by AMANCO crew. Piled the residue on driveway and sidewalk in three piles. 11-June-2022 (Saturday): 1) AMANCO sent one worker to backfill form voids. He poured dirt into voids but did not compact soil or straighten sprinkler heads. 2) He removed barricade cones from driveway entrance even though no vehicles were to drive onto the surface for five more days to allow proper curing of concrete and to prevent cracking. 3) The project foreman (Ray) from AKSARBEN Concrete arrived at 2:40 PM to inspect the job and review my complaints. 4) He loaded piles of ‘fist-size’ concrete chunks into his trunk and took pictures of the chunks, trash left in the yard and the backfill done to driveway and sidewalk voids. He also missed a pile (40 lbs.) of concrete chunks I raked from the yard and landscaping and piled on the back patio surface. 5) Ray promised timely repair of damage to sprinkler system and proper backfill of voids because they want to get paid for the job so they can pay sub-contractor. Kirk Kliver (owner) and Ray Otter (Managing Partner) from AKSARBEN Concrete were very slow to respond to my concerns; they were quick with emails, texts, and platitudes but they did not deliver on their promises. The AMANCO Concrete crew’s handling and finish of the concrete was questionable. 50% of the ‘broom finish’ of the concrete surface was inconsistent and looked unprofessional, and they left a low spot on my back patio/driveway that puddles with water. Additionally, the crew was called back to fill the voids left when they removed the forms. It was obvious they had little respect for my property, and the property of my next-door neighbor. They left trash in my yard and my neighbor’s yard and their overall cleanup of concrete residue and dirt clods was unacceptable.
