Old World Craftsman Nebraska

I would strongly recommend to not hire Old World Craftsmen. What a nightmare they are to work with! A friend hired them over a year ago and the job is still not completed. Unprofessional, very expensive, won’t provide an itemized list or receipts for jobs, charged tens of thousands over original estimate, and ghosted after the payments were fulfilled. They also were not licensed. If you are looking for a great remodel, do not go with Old World Craftsmen!

We love our 1920s Tudor brick home in the Elmwood park neighborhood. Its charm comes with a price -- constant maintenance! I have struggled to find craftsmen who have the skill and experience to match the original quality and aesthetic of the home. We care about cost, but we also care about maintaining the integrity of the house. That's why I chose Old World Craftsmen when our chimney stack needed rebuilding. Years of water seepage from incorrectly capped top had worn away the mortar so it was barely holding together. The large cracks and spaces between the bricks were visible on the front of the house, so the last thing we wanted was poor quality brickwork with obviously new mortar that stood out as a repair. There are many such repairs in our neighborhood's brick homes. I worked with David Baratta (owner) and Robbie Rabuck (master mason) and his assistant, who were professional, attentive and gave us virtually invisible repairs. Actually, it was more like a restoration. The chimney now looks like new and is solid as a rock. In addition, during the time they were working here, they repaired several other areas of mortar loss around the back and garage, and told us how to shore up a wall that was collecting moisture which would eventually have caused problems. Old World Craftsmen is not the cheapest option, true. But we love our old house so were looking for repairs done with exacting attention to detail, high quality materials by guys who love old houses as much as we do.
