This is a factual documentation of the timeline of the screen enclosure that we paid to have built. We did everything we were supposed to do to ensure that we hired a quality company. We checked with the State of Florida to make sure that his state license was valid and we confirmed with his insurance company that his insurance policy was current and valid. • 4/18/17 contract was signed to have Greg Oates of Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair build a 13’ x 20’ screened enclosure that would connect to our existing covered patio. • 4/18/17 deposit paid to Greg Oates at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair • 5/25/17 permit was approved • 6/9/17 second payment was made to Greg at Affordable Screening & Aluminum Repair. This was half of the remaining balance • 6/19/17 Concrete was poured by a sub-contractor. Within 2 days the concrete slab had cracked full thickness and side to side with various spider cracks radiating out. We also had numerous discolored spots in the concrete. Greg Oates was contacted and he suggested various options that would be a temporary solution to the problem • 11/7/17 Concrete slab removed by sub-contractor after we contacted him and informed him of the issue • 11/9/17 new slab was poured by the concrete subcontractor • We continued to contact Greg Oates via text, email and phone messages to ask when he would be starting on the enclosure. When he did respond it was with excuses or false promises. • 12/18/17 We went to the Brevard County Court system and filed a claim in small claims courts for the unfinished work • 1/24/18 We went to small claims court and met with the judge, she encouraged us to try mediation first, which we did. The medication agreement included specific dates that items had to be completed by. We included when Greg would start and when he would have all of the work completed, and Greg agreed to the timeline. Greg Oates failed to meet the first deadline and other dates along the way. The medication agreement also stipulated that any changes to the timeline would be mutually agreed upon. Greg continued to give us excuses as to why he wasn’t meeting deadlines, but not once did we MUTUALLY agree on new dates. • 2/13/18 Greg Oates and his crew did arrive to start working. • Greg continued to make mistakes and missed several key items on the enclosure. • 2/28/18 Greg stated he was done. We tried to contract Greg several times to discuss the items that were still not complete. • 3/23/18 While on the phone with Greg trying to reason with him about the items were not complete he stated he wasn’t going to finish/fix the work and that he would be filing a lien against us. I have a stack of paperwork and text messages to substantiate my comments above. I would be happy to show them to anyone that is interested. Bottom line I do not recommend Greg Oates or anyone associated with Affordable screening and Aluminum Repairs.
