THE HUDSON - Sedona, AZ | Oct 2015 | cathy hayes and her team of architects and interior designers have this remarkable talent to create a deep-rootedness in restaurant designs that, although brand new, feel like legacy, local favorites from the very start. The hayes’ team commitment to approaching each project with their focused imagination "to bring out the best" has once again delivered unparalleled results in the refresh of the restaurant at the top of the Hillside Shopping Center in Sedona, Arizona. Long time Sedona restaurateur, Mark Shugrue, approached Catherine Hayes to develop a new design concept for their neighborhood restaurant with “a fun, inviting, family-friendly atmosphere”. The team met the challenge of refreshing the tired and cramped space, formerly known as Shugrue’s Hillside Grill. Newly named THE HUDSON, the hayes' design removed all of the interior walls, created a large welcoming bar for drinking and dining and introduced roomy booths around the perimeter of the dining room, submersing each guest in glorious views. Hayes’ characteristically signature design move creates multiple intriguing areas in each of their restaurant designs, hoping to encourage frequent visits from the neighbors and tourists alike. Guests looking to engage with one of best views in Sedona now have many outdoor seating options – by the fire, quiet seating along the edge, or at the community table for larger parties. Plastering the walls deep blue and brown colors from the natural rock shadows intensifies the natural colors of sun, sky and stone. Featuring a rich color palette, casual vibe, fantastic patio with the breathtaking views, and really great food and service, THE HUDSON is a lunch and dinner destination for families, friends, couples; business or pleasure. Buck & Rider - Phoenix, Arizona | Aug 2015 | Buck & Rider is a new casual-upscale seafood restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona. The original inspiration was a traditional prairie home with sleeping porches combined with a charming off-white Australian boathouse where one feels transported to the coast; the architecture was to be reminiscent of the Arcadia ranch homes featuring citrus groves, creating a connection to the indoors and outdoors. One of the goals was to build a new restaurant that feels like it has been tucked into the Arcadia neighborhood for decades, with the original palette of off white paint to set off the authentic materials of charred wood, siding, and stone that were selected. The design challenge was to take a relatively small lot and maximize both the parking spaces and the number of seats for the restaurant while remaining true to the design. Facing the patio northeast rewards outdoor diners with a gorgeous view of the Camelback Mountain; by flanking the patio with the fireplaces and server station, it created a sense of enclosure, guarding the guests from the urban noise and provided points of visual interest. The entrance features a floor- to- ceiling steel glazed entry which continues the experience of the outdoors as guests enter the interior of the restaurant. Restrooms are raw, simple spaces resembling boathouse washrooms. hayes inc. provided the exterior architecture of the building along with select interior elements such as the bar rack and banquettes; the owner was responsible for the interior design of the space including lighting, wallpaper, select furniture elements in addition, the owner also selected the final exterior paint. buck & rider architecture designed by hayes inc. architecture/interiors | Phoenix, AZ | ||
