Chuck Bergman Roof Cleaning and Pressure Washing

I started in the pressure cleaning business, here in Charlotte County Florida in 1989 and became licensed in 1991. In 1994 it became a father and son business and still is. We use pressure washing machines, that put out a larger water flow, so that we can accomplish the same cleaning, without blasting everything with 3000 to 4500 psi of pressure! We set our machines at around 2200 psi and put out 5.6 gallons per minute, instead of the common 4 gallons per minute. We only use full pressure cleaning driveways and other tough cement. When it comes to cleaning roofs, we don't even start up a pressure washer, as the roofing manufacturers have a "No Pressure" cleaning method, that we use instead. It's called Soft-Washing. We know your roof is expensive and you probably don't want to have any new chemicals tested out on your roof. By now, most consumers also know that pressure washing is the wrong way to clean a roof. Pressure washing is great for everything except your roof! Non manufacturer cleaning methods may void your roofing warranty, according to the information in the manufacturer links found on our resources page, so we just clean them as the manufacturers say to. The main manufacturer recommended chemical is chlorine bleach. The only other chemical they specify, is TSP Tri-Sodium Phosphate. Can bleach be considered eco-friendly? Yes I would say it is. Chlorine bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite [look at the ingredients in Chlorox etc] and is made from common salt. It bio-degrades back into salt when it dries up. Chlorine is something we all drink from our tap water, soak in it in our showers and tubs and swim in it in our pools. AT LEAST WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH, WHEN IT COMES TO CHLORINE. NOT SO WITH UNKNOWN CHEMICALS CALLED "GREEN" To my knowledge, none of the new "Green" roof cleaning products actually clean themselves, as bleach and tsp do. Inevitably, after applying these chemicals, you will hear their pressure washing machine start up, to accomplish the cleaning. Heck, you could spray a roof with hair shampoo and blast it clean with a pressure washer! However, all the manufacturer links I have found all say 1 thing in common "DO NOT PRESSURE WASH ROOFING" YOU WILL NOT HEAR A PRESSURE WASHING MACHINE START UP WHEN WE CLEAN YOUR ROOF.
