| Chimney Removal & Roof Repair | Oct 2017 | A homeowner called Tapia’s Roofing & Repairs to take a look at his roof after he fired the amateurs that botched removing a chimney from the middle of the house. The first contractors that the homeowner hired damaged the roof decking and gutters and left the worksite a complete mess. Our team got a call from the homeowner to come help him out quickly. As you know, the weather in Texas is unpredictable, so rightfully the homeowner was worried about leaving this humungous hole in the middle of the roof. Step 1: Clean Up the Area and Repair the Deck Our first step was to clean up the area and to trim way all the broken splintered pieces of wood from around the hole. Then we cut a new piece of plywood to patch the hole. New plywood installed to patch the hole. Step 2: Rollout the Roof Felt Next, our team of roofers rolled out the roofing felt. Roofing felt (similar to tar paper) is the base material used to make roof shingles and roll roofing. Typical uses of felt paper are as an underlay beneath other building materials, particularly roofing and siding materials, and is one type of membrane used in asphalt built-up roofing systems. Step 3: Install New Asphalt Shingles Finally, we were able to install new asphalt shingles over where the chimney used to be. Roofing Felt Installed Step 4: One Satisfied Customer Lastly, the homeowner was happy with the work that we did. We were able to repair the roof from the damage done by the prior contractors.
