I am forwarding another review from a client that worked with Robert. This review was captured on the Better Business Bureau's website, located here: https://www.bbb.org/us/wa/poulsbo/profile/construction-services/coultas-general-contracting-1296-22018068/customer-reviews#157202370. Here is what he wrote: I put $10,000 down on a contract to build a garage. I was promised that it would be completed within 6 months. After 6 months I was promised it would be done in another 2 months. After 9 moths of nothing being completed, we finally got what was supposed to be the completed drawings. There is no way that the building in the drawings would fit on the property. I should have done more research. On their website, they state that they are members of the Kit sap Bodybuilders Association. They are not. I checked. On porch.com they show an A+ rating with the BBB. This is false. It is almost impossible to take a contractor to court and recover enough money to justify the expense. You have a greater chance of going to jail for stealing a lolly pop from 7-11 than you do committing fraud for $10,000 as a construction contractor. Do your research.

We hired Robert to remodel the basement area of our family's forever home. We have 2 young children and we shared with Robert how we wanted him to help us add some additional rooms and bathrooms in the basement area. The quality of work was terrible as the concrete pour resulted in floor that is not smooth and uneven by as much as 2". When the plumber asked for the tub area to be leveled, he proceeded to buy self leveling concrete with rocks in it; dumped it which created a 'hill' that protrude above the surrounding area by greater than 1.5". He destroyed the zone control for our HVAC system by not protecting existing systems in the demo process. He 'skimped' on all aspects of work, most notably, on the framing - even his workers complained that he wouldn't buy them screws and support brackets for the framing and support beam. Most of the framing he did construct was tacked together by only one screw/nail on the top and bottom. I could take my hand and spin the 2x4 by turning my wrist. He damaged the retaining wall on the front of our property backing his truck in. Even some of the tools I had in the basement area went missing. All this said, it became apparent we had to excuse Robert. On the day I gave him notice, he quickly collected all his tools and equipment, but then attempted to exit without taking his trash and threw broken glass in our back yard. In fairness, after I called him on his behavior, he picked up the trash and glass. In the end, he effectively walked away with over $5,000 of our money from services he never provided. Lastly, I just found out he never paid the plumber, who is now hinting at putting a lien on my family's home (we paid Robert for these services even before they were performed). Unfortunately, Robert lacks the moral compass, pride of worksmanship and maturity to manage any project. I'd strongly recommend protecting your family by pursuing other avenues to get it done than using Coultas General Contracting. It's worth noting, I enjoyed speaking to all of his employees as they all are friendly, hardworking people. It's unfortunate they're bound by the business owner, Robert. Thank you for reading my write up and I hope you have success in your project.
