Our daughter had rented out her North Charleston, SC home for the past 6 years and recently decided to sell it. My wife and I went to North Charleston on January 3, 2016 to arrange for painting and cleaning of the home. Having no knowledge of area painting or home cleaning companies, we used Porch.com and Google to identify 6 painting companies and had their representatives inspect the home and provide estimates on 4 and 5 January. We selected Kenneth Childs (KC) and his company, Lowcountry Home Works. They did not submit the lowest bid, but we were influenced by KC’s attitude and professionalism. He spoke of the details involved and flexibility in working with us. All of our expectations were more than met. Before he started, we decided to expand the work to include painting the ceiling, an increase that he readily met. Lowcountry was meticulous in preparing to paint. All windows were taped, interior doors removed, electric plates either covered or removed, lighting fixtures/fans removed or covered and wood floors covered. The vaulted ceilings on the main floor made this a difficult task. The “popcorned” ceilings were damaged in several areas. KC was able to repair the ceilings so that the repairs blended in perfectly. Painting the ceilings greatly increased the brightness of all of the rooms. KC used only the best grade of Sherwin Williams paint. We used a beige paint on all walls. Though some walls had previously been painted dark, the Sherwin Williams paint covered beautifully. Lowcountry was extremely detailed in “cutting in” around baseboards, and window and door frames. The quality of the work was also noted by the listing real estate agent. KC adapted to our rapidly changing requirements. Several days after Lowcountry started, we decided to install new carpets throughout the upstairs and wanted to install them during the time Lowcountry was still painting. KC immediately adjusted his work plan to complete painting upstairs before carpet installation and to provide unimpeded access to the carpet area during installation. We asked KC if he knew of a cleaning team which could do a final cleaning of the house. To our pleasure, KC said Lowcountry also cleaned homes. This provided us a seamless transition from painting to cleaning and ultimately to listing the house. My wife and I worked adjacent to KC as we refinished cabinets, cleaned appliances and replaced toilets and light fixtures. He recommended a variety of stores where we able to get replacement fixtures at very favorable prices. During our time working with KC we developed a high regard for his character, his managerial skill and his adeptness in supervising the work being done. My wife and I had to return home before some replacement doors arrived and before I had completed the work I had planned to do. We left North Charleston completely confident that the final work would be completed in a timely and professional manner. After leaving, we have had to ask KC to do a number of additional tasks which we had not been able to complete. Lowcountry has enthusiastically done everything we have asked. I strongly endorse Lowcountry Home Works for their professionalism, responsiveness and ability to adapt to circumstances.
