Fire Stations Drought Tolerant Landscape Project

May 2016

The goal of this project was to create a drought tolerant landscape that conserved water. It was completed over the course of a few months and included the renovation of four different fire station landscapes. The old landscapes were removed of all dead grass, plants and shrubs. Along with this removal, irrigation was removed and replaced with new and more efficient parts. After irrigation was installed, a variety of plants and trees were planted, and different boulders and types of rock were placed as well. Mulch was then spread and decomposed granite of different colors was placed. Select stations had artificial turf installed and one station had sod installed. In addition to these materials, borders and walkways were installed around the decomposed granite. The final products displayed different themes such as desert, mountain and Mediterranean landscapes.
