Based on LD's low bid, we hired him to replace a brick paver patio and deteriorated concrete steps (from patio to backyard) with an exposed aggregate concrete patio and new steps. He also built a 25-foot long cedar fence between our patio and our neighbor's patio. Rather than using a concrete mixer, he mixed the concrete by hand in multiple small batches, resulting in a variable appearance and horizontal cracking, visible around the patio perimeter. He made mistakes throughout the project. Some mistakes were corrected to our satisfaction, some were not. The seven steps he built all had different heights and tread depths. One step was almost twice as high as the rest. He promised to repair a botched patch job around a window well where he had broken off pieces of concrete while removing the wooden forms. The patch job didn't match the adjacent concrete and looked terrible. He returned after we had paid him in full (our mistake!) to discuss how to repair the botched patching. When I asked him for details about how he planned to fix the problem (means and methods), he became offended and said I don't need to know how he plans to perform the work. I was aghast. He broke his promise and never returned to repair his deficient work. We tried to reach him via telephone, text, and email. He texted back saying he wasn't going to complete the promised repairs, nor would he provide a partial refund to help offset the cost of hiring a qualified contractor to correct his mistakes. He ignored our several emails and texts asking him to honor his promise. Work quality and customer satisfaction are not high on his list of priorities. I would not hire him again.
