Homeowner requested a treated pine horizontal, non-spaced/private 6ft tall privacy fence, but was on quite a budget and really liked the horizontal design much better than the standard vertical fence. I designed this simple horizontal design that used the least amount of materials as possible, but still has the strength of your typical horizontal fence with planks, frames, cap, etc, & I used cedar to avoid warping that often occurs when using treated lumber for horizontal fences. The final cost for materials and labor came out to approximately $17/linear ft. Each section is framed and 6ft wide with a cap. I used stainless-steel ringshank nails for all parts of the fence that are exposed (to avoid streaking on the cedar lumber) and used exterior Primeguard screws in all other parts of the fence to give extra strength/grip. I drove by this fence last week (November 7, 2016) and I think it looks even better than right after installation (because of the fading of the lumber which gives it an even more unique look). The homeowner has said that she has had several people stop by her house to find out who did the fence.
