Harbor Ln. Roslyn | Sep 2013 | Miguel Weinstein Architect 4300 sq.ft. $220.00 sq.ft. or $950,000.00 cost of construction Miguel Weinstein's Architect's House in Roslyn Harbor, NY is a seamless balance of nature and elegant design. Located within the hills of the property once owned by the poet & preservationist William Cullen Bryant in Roslyn, and overlooking the Hempstead Harbor, the home consists of two intersecting rectangular shapes embedded in the hillside. Surrounded by lush greenery and sunset views over the harbor, the home integrates deck terraces and outdoor spaces with a sense of cantilevered proportionality to the downward-sloping property. From the street, a long, narrow drive surrounded by vegetation opens to a calming, balanced view of the front facade of the home and the westernmost section of the property. Old stone pillars framed by Brazilian walnut (IPE) siding and anodized aluminum with glass entry door follow the shape of the hillside site with a mass and volume natural to the site. Simple detailing with the use of stone, glass and wood invites visitors to a two-way view entry foyer that allows views through the home to both the front and rear yards. As a primary residence for a couple with two college-age children, the 4300 sq.ft. home provides a large but comfortable space. A custom designed kitchen with espresso wood stained cabinets includes an oversized island finished with dark chocolate granite countertop with seating for 6 to 8 people. A large dining room and an observatory/living room enclosed with glazing are some of the amenities on the main floor. The Master bedroom suite on the same level provides the felling of a small home-within-a-home. The North facing facade has minimum fenestration while the south west facade is a glazed wall enclosing a wrap around terrace overlooking the evening sunsets. The lower floor includes an oversized family room with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms that open to a large yard. Watching a variety of birds species, foxes and other animals is part of the every day experience around the property. | $1m | Roslyn, NY |
