The result is a rewarding experience and great design that works for real people with real budgets. Tag Line We are a small firm with an inventive spirit. Roland Terry Remodel | Jan 2013 | DeForest Architects is bringing a fresh eye and deep appreciation for Roland Terry's work to the task of updating this classic mid-century modern home. Phase one included opening up the kitchen, adding a sunroom, and renewing finishes in the main living spaces | Shoreline, WA
Book House | Jan 2012 | This whole-house remodel gives a venerable brick Tudor home a modern twist. Designed for two book (and dog!) lovers, it incorporates bookshelves and cozy seating areas throughout the house. Modern details complement traditional elements while steel windows, doors and exposed structure open the interior to light and views. The exterior features a 'secret garden', sunroom and terrace that overlook Lake Washington. Interior Design: NB Design Group; Photography: Benjamin Benschneider | Seattle, WA
Art House | Jan 2011 | DA + transformed this existing lakeside residence from a house full of heavy stone and beams into a light filled place for enjoying art, food, and family. The stair received a Grand Award from Residential Architect and a Citation from the Washington AIA Honor Awards. | Seattle, WA
Lakewood | Jan 2010 | This classic mid-centruy modern home had great "bones" that had been comprimised by subsequent remodels. The bathrooms were dated, the hallway was gloomy, and the kitchen was practically non-functional. DA opened up walls, updated finishes, and created a family kitchen centered around "the mother of all islands". The result is a home that honors it's mid-century roots while giving it a new twist. | Lakewood, WA
The Nest | Jan 2009 | Set on a steep hillside overlooking Lake Washington, this project realizes the owners' vision of living in tune with changing light and views. Simple lines, flexible living spaces, well-organized storage, and a rooftop garden all add up to a nest that is anything but empty. | Seattle, WA
Fairhaven | Jan 2009 | We conceived this 3800-square-foot house as a collection of simple geometric boxes oriented toward and open to the surrounding hills and views of Puget Sound. The rooms and views in the house reveal themselves in an alternating fashion, like sheltered grovers and open vistas during a walk in the woods. | Fairhaven, WA
Yum Yum | Jan 2008 | Set amidst cornfields and a future organic farm, this small house evokes traditional farms while giving them a modern twist. The interior features fir flooring salvages from an Amish farmhouse, deep red plywood panels normally used for concrete farmwork, recycled plumbing fixtures, and modern furniture from Bludot and Design Within Reach. Courtyard House | Jan 2013 | The entrance to this lakefront home is a serene courtyard with plenty of privacy. By removing much of the main floor structure, the main living spaces open to terraces, gardens and sweeping views. Interior Design: NB Design Group; Photography: Benjamin Benschneider | Seattle, WA |
