We made the mistake of hiring Cascade Design & Build to project manage and construct our master suite addition, laundry room, and kitchen remodel. Midway through the addition, we were so fed up with Cascade that we hired another contractor (would highly recommend) to do our kitchen remodel. The following details why we would NEVER recommend Cascade for hire of any remodeling project. Mediocre management of this project resulted in us being over budget and timeline. The entire project took 14 months to complete which was 7 months past our original timeline. Despite our multiple requests, Cascade consistently failed to produce project plans and claimed that these were not needed to complete the job. Only after our repeated questions of how do we complete a project without a plan were we given ineffective ones that had vague project items with no set dates of completion. We also had to request project updates numerous times, many times with no response and with limited regard to customer service. Resulted in us managing the remodel ourselves as we needed to prod Cascade consistently to continue work. The work was intermittent and at times, weeks would come and go with no progress or communication made with regard to next steps. Many times we were given empty promises of work being scheduled with no follow-through. Further, when we pressed Cascade on follow-up, we were given responses that were defensive, unprofessional, and at times, hostile with no accountability or follow-through on what would happen next. When we finally did have responses from Cascade, there were countless emails that demonstrated Cascade’s rude and utterly unprofessional responses, specifically attacking us when we responded with data-driven questions. No accountability for their errors and always defensive when responding. In fact, we’ll be waiting for their defensive response to this review. In addition, what really concerns us is Cascade’s business practices. Across the course of this project, we discovered that 4 subcontractors did not receive payment from Cascade despite full payment installments that were timely paid by us according to our payment schedule. Specifically, the plumber, electrician, exterior painter, and general contractor who did exterior framing reached out to us directly expressing concern that they did not receive payment from Cascade which resulted in delay of work. Emails and texts are documented proof that Cascade held payment to these subcontractors and after looking at other reviews, it appears to be a consistent theme of Cascade’s shady business. We want to call out that we do not have ANY concerns with the quality of work that were done by any of the subcontractors. All of them were professional, did wonderful work, and we would emphatically refer them. The only hesitation that we have with referring them is if they are still in business with Cascade. We hope these details prevent another customer falling into the same trap that we and others experienced. Doug and Lourdes Reymore do not take accountability of their poor management skills, and are not honest with their business practices and money. Their designer, Carole Geniella, provides no added value in any sort of “design” other than simply meeting at the cabinet warehouse to tell you products that are included in Cascade’s contracted rate with that warehouse. Considering the time and money that you spend on your home, please do research if you decide to hire Cascade. Be factual and data-focused when going through this project, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to speak up when things don’t make sense, even if it results in defensive responses. Finally, always refer to your contract as your North Star when things go sideways, which was our saving grace. Good luck.
