Ballard Kitchen Remodel

Mar 2015

A small 1920s home in Seattle that was in need of just the right fit. The Owner of this classic Seattle home contacted Diamond Kitchen and Bath with hopes of bringing his kitchen into the new century. This home was very typical for it age and location. The kitchen had three entrances, not much space, a chimney that protruded in to the space and it left not much room for modern appliances. Other goals for this project: Stay as close to the traditional style of this home as possible, find a way to make this space function with full sized appliances while not making it feel crowded and of course, the budget is tight. The decision was to hand build the cabinetry. full height subway tile was installed, the electrical, plumbing and gas here upgraded. and new appliances were installed. The reasons for custom cabinetry; In one corner is a chimney. The space between the chimney and fridge was to small for a functional cabinet. It was a great place for a bookshelf! Recessing the fridge gave the cooking area a fair amount of counter space. There is a door to the right of the cooking space that leads to the basement. the cabinetry in these areas are unique depths, widths and heights. The build out in to the room behind the fridge was six feet wide. It only needed to be three feet wide. Our goal was to have equal spaces on either end of the wall. We built two full height book cases for these spaces. The wall was built out to match the window seat on the right and the cabinets were built to sit flush as well. You would never guess that this was built to accommodate the fridge as it looks too 'meant to be' and that is by design! The living room cabinets have lighting on a dimmer, glass upper doors and glass shelving. Diamond Kitchen and Bath LLC designed this project and handled every step to complete it.
