Right up front, I will say that they do good work. As long as it doesn’t matter if and when they complete that work. And that’s asking a lot of Corvid. We hired Corvid for a DADU extension to our Queen Anne house. Paid the down payment in October of 2019 with the promise from them of a 16 week completion. Even with an unfortunate 2 month delay due to Covid, it was over *70 weeks* later before the project was completed! Almost 5 times over. All with nothing but excuses about how hard everything was on *them* and not a single apology or offer for compensation for the lost time. I am more than willing to discuss in great detail about Corvid's "sliding calendar" that changed on a daily basis when they didn't feel like showing up. Not to mention the projects they cancelled because they decided it was not something they wanted to do. Whatever you do, talk to people who have actually engaged them before you hire...they sound great to start, but they turn out to be like every other shady contractor.

Rainier Valley | Sep 2015 | A whole house remodel with a savvy young family on a budget. With a fully engaged (DIYer) client this project was a true contractor/client collaboration in bringing back to life a 1909 Rainier Valley home on the cusp of viable repair. The floor plan was reworked to provide an open sense of space and bring in more natural light including adding windows across the back of the house to connect the living space to the backyard. Work on the main floor included adding a power room, new staircase, and new kitchen with farmhouse sink and soapstone countertops. On the second floor, we remodeled the bathroom, added a laundry room, and finished out the new bedroom floorplan. A salvaged tryptic stained glass window was incorporated as an interior fixed transom in between the front entry and home office. Throughout the house, finishes were predominantly Craftsman era with a contemporary nod here and there. Old growth pine wood flooring from a relative on the East Coast was meticulously revived by the client and installed by us to serve as a design focal point in the 1909 Craftsman. | Seattle, WA
Wallingford | Aug 2015 | Took a 2,060sf dilapidated long-term rental home built in 1900 down to the studs. Work included significant reframing to get the house back to a crisp level and plumb and installation of a new furnace, water heater, roof, plumbing & lighting. We opened the kitchen floorplan and installed a 9ft Nana Wall folding glass exterior door to a new backyard deck with cable railing. We added a gas fireplace in the living room with a tile hearth, custom stile & rail surround, mantel, and flanking bookcases in a Craftsman style and yet designed with the client’s 42” wall mounted television in mind. On the main floor we added a powder room with custom wood wainscot, all new flooring, new custom kitchen, and refreshed the original newel post, balusters and railing. We refreshed and reworked the original built-in entry bench, behind which we discovered a batch of postcards and letters dating from 1913 - a remodel treasure. In the kitchen, we built a 9ft island wrapped in Montana beetle pine wood and installed custom Huntwood cabinetry. On the second floor, we added a floor-to-ceiling tiled master bathroom with a walk-in shower, rain can showerhead and floating vanity in an old closet space. A nice pick-a-boo territorial view was gained after we installed a new skylight. We remodeled a second bathroom off the main hall and refinished the existing fir floors with an ebony stain. After new siding and building a front porch entrance, we joyfully painted the house inside and out to complete the process of bringing this ole’ beauty back to its rightful state. | Seattle, WA
Ravenna | Jul 2015 | Creative conversion of a two story rear pop-out on a 1908 Craftsman in the Ravenna neighborhood to serve as a mother-in-law space. The client took on tile and paint herself after we focused our work on building new petite stairs to the loft, new plumbing, lighting, and cabinetry. An old door was re-purposed as the loft railing. Looking for creative storage solutions, we included a built-in bookcase and a hidden storage area under the stairs accessed through hinged stair treads. | Seattle, WA
Lake Washington | Apr 2015 | Tranformed the dining room of a Lake Washington waterfront home by removing an old window, opening, framing and installing a custom built 5’ wide mahogany pivot door with commercial-grade hydraulic opener. Trimmed out the door with new leaded sidelites. Custom cut new trim to match the original mahogany trim profile elsewhere in the house. A small but powerful transformation which actualized the space’s grand potential of using Lake Washington as its framed backdrop. | Seattle, WA
Queen Anne | Apr 2015 | A whole house remodel with basement floorplan upgrades for two growing kids - starting with a new concrete slab - and then adding a double vanity bathroom, 2 bedrooms, family room with custom cabinets and bookcases, and a mudroom/laundry room. Main floor work included a full kitchen remodel with semi-custom install of Ikea cabinets, quartz countertops & Carrara marble subway tile backsplash. We added a powder room with pedestal sink and expanded the master bathroom into a 5-fixture room with herringbone tile, built-in oversized soaking tub, walk-in shower & double vanity. All the finishes stayed true to the Craftsman period of the home. Lighting fixtures were a combination of Rejuvenation and Restoration Hardware. To further capture the spirit of the period we added a custom wood wainscot detail in the powder room, tile wainscot with rail detail in the master bath & custom built-in stile & rail breakfast nook bench with lidded storage. | Seattle, WA
Delridge | Feb 2015 | A Mid-Century kitchen remodel with extensive client collaboration. To stretch the budget, the detail-oriented client completed most of the design and fixture procurement herself. Work included opening the floorplan between the kitchen and the living room to the extent possible without altering the structural components and draining the budget. The kitchen location moved to the opposite side of the house. Changing the basement swing door to a pocket door solved a path bottleneck. Natural light was enhanced with a new skylight. Existing oak flooring was thoughtfully left untouched and new kitchen tile flooring was installed with a graceful transition between old and new. New wood finishes were stain matched to the existing wood stain to blur the lines between old and new and maintain whole house continuity. | Seattle, WA
Seward Park | Dec 2014 | A whole house remodel of a 1961 mid-century classic Pacific Northwest home designed by architect Robert Beatty. At the time the 3,430sf house was built it was featured in the Seattle Times for its unique architectural vision. Overlooking Lake Washington, the 4bd & 3.5 ba home had been untouched and needed significant system and finish updates. The new owner, an active cook, wanted the isolated kitchen floor plan integrated into the dining and living area view lines. Thoughtful design changes maintained the original character while opening the floor plan and further embracing the original dramatic vaulted ceilings. The remodel included installation of radiant underfloor heat on the main & Buderus hydronic radiators in the basement, custom finished 5’ x 5’ plywood flooring throughout the main floor, 53 new wood windows, all new lighting, new plumbing, bath fixtures and new kitchen cabinetry. The kitchen focal points include a custom pine beetle wood wrap on the island, custom pine beetle wood butcher block countertops and addition of a 4’x 4’ skylight. Existing woodwork was carefully restored and stain matched to the original color. A dramatic 9’ window seat with flanking bookshelves was custom built & stain matched successfully blending new work with the original design style & tone. The exterior received a new side deck, entrance & all new paint. The dramatic 16’ fir slat vaulted ceiling in the main great room was visually extended to the outside by detailing the deck overhang with matching fir slats. The significant updates and thoughtful design changes successfully met the current homeowner’s needs while honoring the original architectural design vision. | Seattle, WA |
