I cannot in good faith go without leaving a negative recommendation for Mark Becker. His craftsmanship is sub-par and in reality he should not be in this line of work. I hired Mark to install a closet and it was simply dismal. I subsequently hired a real contractor to fix his disaster and the contractor was at loss for words and said that its not the worst he's seen, but its real close to the worst he has seen. Upon tearing out Mark's work it was discovered that the wiring was done in such a way that it was a potential fire hazard. I was not going to leave a review until this faulty electrical problem was discovered. So in good faith and to prevent someone from being harmed I cannot recommend this handyman service. I pray that his work does not cause harm. Here are the items that stand out after a real contractor came in: -Framing was not plum. -Closet door head was about 1/2" out of level over a 32" run. As a result Mark cut the bottom of the door to fit in the door jam. He then nailed a piece of trim on the bottom of the door to cover this cut. Total disaster. -Drywall was only secured to studs in a couple of spots, which made the drywall slap the studs when you touched it. One sheet actually fell off with no effort during the demolition of Mark’s work. -Drywall was not taped and mudded anywhere, but only caulked, so the joints clearly showed. -Texture was rough and abrasive and in no way matched the remainder of this brand new home. It was so rough that it drew blood as I brushed past it. -Electrical was simply hazardous, with a ground and hot wire exposed and nearly touching. Also had five wires into one wire nut, into a little box. Also it looked like crap as the switches were not flush with the wall and angled out. -brand new carpet will need to be replaced as he cut out too much carpet to build the closet. This really pissed me off. -base boards did not match existing base boards -Door and hardware did not match the rest of this new home. Also, door hinges were not recessed and just laid on top of jam. Also, who puts a threshold on an interior door? In the end, this close looked like it belonged in a shanty somewhere in the woods, not in this brand new custom home. This has turned from a $3,500 closet addition to an $8,000 fix. The good news is that the contractor in here right now as completely fixed Mark's disaster and it is beginning to look like the closet was meant to be there. I should have had the builder do it, but it was an oversight on our end. I have not tried to contact Mark to get my money back as I try to simply move past experiences like this and avoid conflict. But as I sit here and type this out the more angry I’ve become and am considering small claims. Beware of this guy.
