Just Add Paint From Camp Hill, PA Custom New Home

Apr 2015

We have the opportunity to do several of these per year, and we love them! The process is same for this 5,000 square foot monster as it is for a 1500 square foot ranch house. Start to finish: Fills thousands of tiny holes in the trim with spackle, Caulk all trim, sand spackle (using wet sanding or Festool dustless sanding system), mask off anything that doesn't get painted, spray prime, cut and roll walls, then trim work. Dust control is always an issue, as is working around other trades - although this particular builder is a genius with scheduling and made things easy for us. Grueling, extremely satisfying work the requires lots and lots of coffee to complete...

Just Add Paint Camp Hill, PA Kids Room w Stripes

Jan 2015

For this project, we had the rare opportunity to break out and apply some grade school geometry to help keep things square. Fortunately we also had a lazer level, lots of Delicate Surface Frog Tape, and sunglasses to assist in this wild adventure. Drying time was an issue since the tape needed to be moved to both sides of each line. Finishing this one in 2 days was nothing short of a miracle. Check at your local Lowes Pro-Paint desk and ask for a brochure on kids rooms, they have tons of great ideas...

Just Add Paint Staircase Overhaul in Harrisburg, PA

Dec 2014

This was a fun project inspired by an article on Pintrest combined with our client's own creative twist. It was challenging to get the treads of the stairs painted and still allow our customers access to their upstairs bedrooms. After prepping the surfaces with our Festool dustless sanding/HEPA vac, we used a chemical additive that helped to speed the drying process of the paint. This combined with our customers brilliant idea of laying down some wax paper on the treads made it possible to use the stairs nightly without disrupting the surface. We completed this one in 3 days, and used a combination of Pre-Catalyzed Epoxy and Porch and Floor Paint.

Just Add Paint Mechanicsburg, PA Cabinet Refinish 17050

Oct 2014

We LOVE refinishing cabinets. For this project we used a shellac-based primer to make sure wood tannins were properly sealed, and then sprayed them with 3 coats of PPG Pittsburgh Paint BREAKTHROUGH back at our shop. Not unlike epoxy, BREAKTHROUGH is a difficult product to work with because it starts to tack up almost instantly after being applied. We strongly recommend ignoring any articles you have read on Pintrest suggesting that painting cabinets is an "easy to moderate" project for DIYers. Leave this one to the pros and your finish can look like it came straight from the factory....

Just Add Paint Mechanicsburg, PA Repaint

Oct 2014

We worked with our regular designer, Lia, on the color coordination for this one. The main challenges were working under a time crunch, working around furniture, and using lots and LOTS of colors. Featured products used were Sherwin Williams Cashmere in Low Luster (Eggshell) and Valspar Multi-Surface primer. For more information visit www.facebook.com/justaddpaint

Just Add Paint Mechanicsburg, PA Epoxy Floor

Jun 2014

Don't be fooled by the directions on the can, 2-part Epoxy floor paints are very tricky to apply. They involve mixing a base paint and hardener together that will give your garage or basement the durability you are looking for. However, the slightest error in proper prep can result in product failure, and there is no easy fix for Epoxy. Floors may need any variety of power washing, de-greasing, acid etching, and in some cases grinding to make sure the paint sticks. And this is just the beginning - from there you have a very short time to work before the Epoxy sets up. Moving quickly is key, and spreading the paint evenly at a high pace takes practice. The same can be said for spreading the decorative flakes. We recommend leaving this type of work for professional. While box store products like the one pictured (Valspar from Lowes) will not hold up as well as more expensive brands, they are typically fine for non-commercial use. We always suggest adding an epoxy clear-coat with the Valspar line for extra protection...
