Kitchen & Screened Porch Addition | Nov 2016 | This client came to us with the hope of adding a screened porch to enjoy the outdoors and to create a larger kitchen and family room. The new design includes a kitchen island that serves as a central connecting point to the bathroom, living room, exterior, and screened porch. The sliding doors of the new screened porch are a perfect segue to the outdoors, and coupled with large windows, result in lots of natural lighting and seamless connectivity to the outside. Tubular skylights were also added to allow for more natural lighting in the interior spaces. A wood burning fireplace and ceiling mounted heat lamps now allow the family to enjoy the porch in winter. The ceiling fan helps keep the space comfortable in summer. | $250k | Potomac, MD
Additions & Energy Upgrades | Oct 2013 | The owners of this home were looking for green upgrades to the property. Peabody Architects became their first choice due to their expertise in green building. Most homes in this neighborhood were built in the 1950's and are solid masonry structures with no wall insulation and very little attic insulation. The upgrades chosen for this project include: spray foam insulation, triple pane windows, radiant floor heat, and natural day-lighting by adding more windows. | Silver Spring, MD
Sun Deck Renovation | Aug 2013 | The sun deck renovation aimed to repair, upgrade and modernize the house's existing sunroom deck. When the structure was originally built, it never fulfilled its intended purpose as it leaked to the floor below and did not have proper safety railings or a walk-able surface. The homeowner liked the idea of using cable railing and wanted to use composite decking boards for flooring. The sun deck needed to be waterproof for the space below while remaining a walk-able surface. Upgrades included new exterior drywall and tiles for the room below, a waterproof roofing TPO membrane, free-floating decking boards, and new PVC railing posts. | Potomac, MD
Whole House Remodel | Sep 2012 | This whole house remodel aimed to bring together and modernize the overall space. On the first floor, work included a floor-to-ceiling kitchen bay window, new kitchen cabinetry, new appliances, new storm doors, new hardwood floors, and new slate flooring in the foyer. The second floor included a completely redesigned master bath, new laundry room, added skylights, and three newly remodeled bathrooms. The entire house remodel added 90 ceiling light fixtures, an upgraded electrical system, and refinished hardwood flooring. | Potomac, MD
Sunroom Addition | Mar 2012 | The sunroom addition added 650 square feet to the house, has radiant floor heat, and filled the room with natural lighting. The new deck provides the client space to entertain their guests during the Holiday gatherings. | Bethesda, MD
Master Suite Addition | Mar 2012 | Designed by David Maudlin Architect, this addition added a dining room and a cathedral ceiling master suite. The new window layout permits natural light to penetrate deep into the created space. | Bethesda, MD
2nd Story Addition | Feb 2012 | For this project, we enlarged the kitchen, added a master suite, and added a sun-filled sitting room. Challenges involved leaving the existing structure intact and attaching the new addition properly, while staying within the design theme of the original structure. | Gaithersburg, MD |
