They wanted a better kitchen, mudroom, master bathroom, and living spaces. They also wanted this built to a high level of building science, as the owners are an architect and engineer. Even though this home added about 45% to the sq ft, it still improved energy efficiency by 40%.

Efficient New Home

This family was interested in building a super healthy, super efficient home, that was highly durable, and requires little maintenance. This home is the first Certified Passive House in Chicagoland and the 28th in the country. It won the 2013 USGBC Emerald Award for Home Innovation. It requires 90% less energy to heat and cool than code built home and is estimated to use less than $175 a year to heat and cool.

High End Wines

This family had a large collection of high end wines they shipped over from Europe. We custom designed and built a wine cellar for them acorind to their needs. This wine cellar was built with materials that promoting only a high level of indoor air quality and non-toxic materials. The wine cellar was performance testing for air leakage to assure the mositure confined to the cellar did not cause mositure problems in any walls of existing home. This also ensures a high level of energy efficiency.

Fire Restoration

This home had a fire in half of it. We gutted and remodled half the house that was burned. We were still able to significantly improve energy effieicny by over 50%, and was certified under the NAHB Green Building program. We also made the home much healthier (as compared to pre fire health of home and materials), and did this all for insurance proceeds with no additional money out of clients pocket.

We basically gutted the entire home to the 16" depp stone masonry walls, and built a whole new home inside it with completely different layout and interior structure.The enrgy efficiency was improved by 300%. This home was also certified NAHB Green Building Program Emerald.
