I have been robbed of $18k... By the contractor that I picked to help me build my shop... it is very long story... needless to say if you are are given referral for a Rex Horton at Omega Construction, run... many many complaints on BBB, Google, and Angies List.. also has a history on Missouri Casenet, with numerous judgements in small claims, has $34k judgement against him for doing the same to another couple ... Seems his MO is to do some small jobs, to get referrals for doing these jobs, and once he builds a relationship with his victim, he will take on a much bigger project and sign a contract, with draws of funds, at stages of the job... He does just enough to make it appear that the job is going well... but with the intention of never finishing, and never picking up the phone. In my case he supposedly had a family emergency in Oklahoma and disappeared.. one of the prior complaints said same extact thing, he had death in the Family in Oklahoma and disappeared. I was pitching a fit about how long my job was taking and a few friends looked him up on line, and I was shocked at what they found out about this guy. I have never been so up set, I was angry, I was hurt, I was embarrassed... that was part the money I got from dad when he passed... all I could think was ... my father saved every penny, so he could pass on something to his children ... he sat in that tiny cabin for the last couple years, he always talked about how much he was saving.... and this clown knew this and still scammed me... I feel like a complete loser... I had worked with this guy on other projects on my home and they had always been done right... I thought I had found some one who I could depend upon to do maintenance on my home... ... I should have checked further ... I did not and now I lost my father's money... What sucks even more he trashed my back yard and left a terrible mess. It has cost me a bunch money to remove the tree logs, and huge boulders ... what did i get for my money a hole in my yard, a poorly designed form for a concrete slab. And 3 piles if dirty gravel that could not be used for the slab. A friend of mine took me to the planning zoning for Greene county... there was no permit, which I could have be fined by the county for. This lack of permit allowed me to terminate my contract with him... and start picking up the pieces.. I had to send him certified mail and regular mail so I know he knows he is done... and he owes me my money and I want it back. First thing I went to my nieghbors and apologized ... and explained what happened and I was going clean up the mess... I live in a nice neighborhood and I regret my nieghbors having look at my mess. Second thing I did, I took pictures of the destruction of my property and I went saw the lawyer had been successful in getting judgement against him... and that lawyer has me getting bids for the shop I wanted. Once I get these bids I am going to sue him for my money he stole, and the cost the clean up of my yard. I am still in the process of getting bids... Third .... I called Greene County sheriffs office and lodged a criminal complaint. To have him arrested... oh he has a warrent for his arrest in Christian County... for failure to appear.. I know, I doubt will never see any money back but if I can hit him criminal and civil.. and it cost me money, then so be it. 4th... I wanted to thank some folks for helping me through this so far... Calvin Finney, he is the guy who said, James have you checked BBB? And then Calvin read the lodged complaints against him. Calvin then talked me down ... I was going to go see him... Calvin, showed me there was better way. Teddy Adams, is retired Construction supervisor and he looked over the site and took me to court house to check on the permitt and gave his opinion on how screwed up the work that was already done. Chris Hodges and Kevins Backhoe for cleaning up my back yard and making my back yard some what presentable... All my friends who allowed me to get this off my chest... it has been the major focus in my life right now ... and Cindi Schmitt who has had to deal with a very angry man... Jason with the Lifts for holding on to my 4 post lift for me until I get this issue solved. I thought about not saying anything... I am so embarrassed... but that would not help the next guy.. I thought... he could sue me for slander... well the lawyer said not if everything is true... and by my posting this, you all know me... I would not make this up.. it could stop him for scamming the next older person, so hear I am having coming to Jesus moment. Tomorrow I am going also lodge complaints on Google, BBB and Angie's list... I love to settle this the old west way... but I think if I am successful legally it will even be better .. I also am going to continue to figure a way to get my bigger shop done ... I really need it to continue the projects I want to do. Also I love to some day; myself, my son and Grand son working on cool cars in the shop my dad gave me... what better way to honor my old man, but have the Ray boys building cool hot rods. I don't like telling this story... but I feel it is important to share the world the POS this guy is . And hopefully it will help some one not to trust anyone... always check on them. And that Rex Horton is a scam artist...

We hired Rex Horton (Omega Construction) to do an add-on to our home. It really wasn't a very complicated project- extend the kitchen, add an office, a little bit of flooring, and some cabinets. The project (which was supposed to take 6-8 weeks) was behind from the start. While 3 weeks of delay were due to weather, the rest was due to Rex and his crew doing shoddy work and not knowing how to proceed. Rex did not use reliable enough people to ever be able to go with "plan a" on any single step of the project after the digging of the hole for the foundation. The concrete had to be done by a backup crew. And in fact, the concrete is the only usable part of the work that Rex and his crew did. The floor joist that were placed for the new part of the floor in the add-on did not meet code. The wall framing, which should have taken a few days, took 3+ weeks and was not done correctly- including headers that were undersized and not the proper thickness, a wall not in the right place, a pantry that is crocked in every way possible, etc. In fact, the headers that were put in above the windows and doors, if left, would have necessitated either bending the doors & windows or bending the sheet rock. Rex saw no issue with them. So they moved on to the roof. Their first attempt at a roof had no straight lines or flat planes what-so-ever. The crew (his sons) were having to sit on the decking just to be able to nail it to the frame work. When I went up to walk on it, it bounced like a suspension bridge. We called Rex with our concerns and told him it needed to be ripped off. We also told him we were concerned that he was almost never here working or supervising his young sons. He said he would start being more present and supervising, but that never happened. Their second attempt at a roof was no better. Again, we made them rip it off. But this time we demanded a different crew to do the job. The third roof, while sturdier, was still twisted, had dips all over the place, and did not line up with the original roof. Rex then moved on to shingles. It took three different attempts to simply tar paper the roof and then a "plan c" crew finally put down the shingles. The shingles looked like a child put them on. The guy obviously didn't know what he was doing. No straight lines any where and shingles were slopped all over the place. And in the midst of all of this it was one of the wettest summers in recent history. Rex did almost nothing to keep the project dry and didn't seem to care that 5 different times the water rained and flooded into my house- ruining the carpet in my living room and one closet, soaking into and molding my ceiling, causing massive black mold growth under my house, and rotting the original rim joist under my living room. We also paid Rex extra money to seal the original house (which wasn't wrapped) and put house wrap on it. They left the house wrapping over the vents on the house, making it impossible to dry out the now super damp crawl space. When they put the siding back up on the house, it was crooked, mismatched, and falling off. After 14 weeks, Rex emailed me saying he was quitting. I am now left with a disaster of a project. He took a huge amount of money from me, refuses to take my phone calls, and won't return the materials (tile flooring, hardwood flooring, a sliding glass door, and siding) he claims to have purchased with my money. I have had a building inspector write up this project and not a single thing that Rex and his crew touched passes code. It all has to come down and I now have to pay someone a large amount of money to fix everything that Rex damaged. I also now have in my possession a legal background check on Rex Horton. I firmly believe that everything he ever told me is a lie. He told us he has been in business for 20 years- not according to the background check. In fact, he was sentenced to three years in prison for writing bad checks over and over and doing bad business. He has a record a mile long of doing poor work and people suing him for it. And look up Rex Horton and his crew (Aaron and Zach) they all have a series of mugshots. In my opinion (and the building inspector's) I would also stay away from Gabe Wood who did a terrible job framing our roof and Matt Tucker of Virtu-Del LLC who did a horrendous job shingling our roof. Oh and on top of everything, Rex never got a dumpster for our job- leaving trash, debris, nails, etc in my yard- killing the grass and endangering my young child and dog. STAY AWAY FROM REX HORTON (OMEGA CONSTRUCTION) and all those listed in this review. We went out of our way to try to support a family business, and he took advantage of ours.
