My fiance and I locked ourselves out of our apartment a few months ago for the first time. We were charged $60 for the service which was no big deal. Everything went smoothly. This was around 7pm-8pm at night. Last night we locked ourselves out for the second time, also around 7pm-8pm. This time, the locksmith was a bit rude. He charged us $90. When I questioned him about it he told me that he always charges $90 for apartment lockouts. I told him that last time it was $60, and he said that we'd paid a portion in quarters. Which we did, because it was what we had at the time. We paid about half in quarters, half on a card. Both my fiance and I remember this very clearly. I let it go and decided to deal with it in this morning. So it turned out that our door knob had been damaged during the lockout, so a maintenance worker came out and fixed it. While fixing it he discovered where the damage had occurred, and how. So I called the locksmith back and told him that the door knob had been damaged and brought up once again that last time it was $60. I tried to handle the matter professionally, but he was very curt and rude. He said that the last time we were locked out was during the day and that's why it was $60. As I mentioned before, both were at the same time of night. Finally he asked what I wanted and I said I really just wanted my $30 back. In these exact words, he said, "You want your $30 back? Come and get it." I hung up. I will not ever be using this service again, and I would advise everyone else not to as well if you don't want to be overcharged and have your door knob broken.
