Total Renovation - Sunny Isles Beach, FL | Dec 2013 | The 18' entry gallery is a low light level space. From the static space of the entry, one enters the dynamic space of the living area illuminated by a flood of natural light. I selected graphite, an earthy black, to unite the various areas of the apartment and keep the eye moving without being jarred. I incorporated the organic color and tactile fabrication of wood: teak, mahogany, rosewood. Wood adds natural beauty and an organic aesthetic, bringing a rich modern character to the design scheme. The bedroom and bath interiors are pale and airy, but far from dull. Visual interest is derived from texture, pattern, and color. | $250k | Sunny Isles Beach, FL
50's Vintage Home Revisited | A typical home resulting from the 50's suburban sprawl, the original owners wanted to update without remodeling. So to give the illusion of an floor plan, I carried similar color schemes throughout the entire home. The predominant colors being gray, black, and white. Browns were brought in through the use of organic woods and antiques. | $50k | Manhasset, NY
A 25th Floor Aerie | As a vacation getaway, it was all I could do to resist the home owner's desire to decorate with wicker and palm trees. To make the most of the magnificent wall to wall, floor to ceiling view, I used neutral tones on the walls and furnishings to draw the eye directly from the entry to the outside. I mirrored the living room wall adjacent to the windows to double the view and increase the size of the space. Since the owners did not need a dining room, I converted it to a den, a comfortable, casual space. | $25k | Sunny Isles Beach, FL
A Cinderella Makeover | Capes typically consist of small, boxy rooms, and this was no exception. Walls were removed to open up the living/dining/kitchen area, windows were added to all exterior walls, and the wood of the living room floor was matched and used throughout the first floor with the exception of the bath. Two small bedrooms were combined to create a master suite. A totally new kitchen was conceptualized, including moving the sink to under a large window. A rear deck was added that ran the length of the house accessed by the living room, kitchen, and bedroom. | $60k | Hampton Bays, NY
Box Tree | I had the opportunity of designing this home with the architect, so nothing had to be structurally altered. A new home in the Hamptons, it was a blank slate… a designer's dream. It wasn't exactly considered an open concept, room openings were 8 ft wide providing some delineation yet allowing flow for entertaining large groups. A similar color scheme was maintained in the public rooms, while the hues in the library, kitchen, and bedrooms differed significantly. | $30k | East Quogue, NY
One Bedroom Investment Rental | Feb 2013 | The heart of Miami draws tens of thousands of young business men and women who want to work, live, and play in upscale buildings that provide every amenity. One of my long time NY clients called me looking for investment property, and we found a one bedroom apartment in one of the most sought after buildings in Miami. As a rental apartment, we wanted a neutral design scheme without looking bland. Since the 20' high walls are white, and the kitchen cabinetry is wood, we decided on black - white - walnut brown as the primary color palette with red as the accent. The only "problem", if you can call it that, was working with the 20' ceilings which visually throws the rooms out of proportion. Using layered lighting, mirrors, artwork, and the color scheme, the solution for each area came easily. You'll read about each as you leaf through the photos. We got the place rented before the project was finished. | $14k | Miami, FL
Oceanfront Minimalism | To make the most of the oceanfront location, I selected a white palette spiked with pops of saturated colors. Furnishings are contemporary yet comfortable, and minimalist so the focus is on the beautiful views. Much of the budget was spent on the public spaces while the bedrooms were decorated with simple, cost effective basics. | $20k | Westhampton Beach, NY
Even A Timeless Design Runs Out Of Time | The project centered around the living room which is open to the newly renovated kitchen. The objectives were simple - to update, create a feeling of spaciousness, accommodate more guests and replace the sofa. The key element was to replace the L-shaped sofa with a smaller 76" streamlined style which opened the room, creating space to add two additional seating areas. | $6k | Weston, FL |
