Riverview Residence | Nov 2013 | An inefficient kitchen was reconfigured and an entry vestibule was added in this renovation of a colonial revival style house. The existing kitchen was a decent size, but the layout was awkward, and the room felt dark. To open up the space, a wall was removed between the kitchen and breakfast room. The homeowner was interested in sustainable strategies for an environmentally responsible addition, so all of the existing cabinets were refinished and re-used with new cabinets added and stained to match. The small entry vestibule built under the existing porch roof (shown below) provides a transition from the exterior to the kitchen. | $60k | Swarthmore, PA
Oberlin Residence | May 2013 | A cramped kitchen and narrow breakfast room were expanded in this addition to a Victorian home in Swarthmore, PA. The ceilings were raised, cabinet layout reconfigured, and the breakfast room enlarged. The result was a spacious light-filled eat-in kitchen with a view of the garden. On the exterior, a second floor balcony was rebuilt, and a new bluestone patio was added to provide room for outdoor entertaining. | $150k | Swarthmore, PA
Columbia Residence | Nov 2012 | The homeowners were looking to rejuvenate the front of their 1920s colonial revival home. The new design introduced a wrap-around porch which added much needed curb appeal. An enlarged entry door painted a deep red gave the front entrance the attention it deserved, and the addition of sidelights helped bring more light into the foyer. To give the house a modern classic look, the exterior shutters were removed and a neutral gray and white paint scheme was chosen. A small mudroom was added to the side of the house to provide an informal entrance from the driveway. | $40k | Swarthmore, PA |
