I hired Robert Verdugo back in Sep 2019 after he successfully did some yard work in a previous home. I paid up for a big job both back and front yard. Took him 1.5 yrs to finish the backyard only because I didn’t give up since he already got paid. He always had one excuse after the other. It was a nightmare and extremely stressful. I believe most of the time he robs Peter to pay Paul if he pays Paul at all. Since his paver guy was no longer avail, I told him to just supply me with the rest of the pavers we needed for the front yard and I would just find someone else to install them then he could just finish up with the rock. This was very generous of me. He agreed but once he finished the backyard, he won’t return any of my msgs now, so we will have to spend more money on hiring a professional landscaper who will be licensed and bonded to finish the job. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GUY. He may be nice but not honest or professional, nor is he licensed and bonded. I wish I would have seen these other negative reviews before I hired him. Hard lesson learned.

Robert Verdugo had a business, Landscape Logic Az and changed it to Beautyscapes because he had so many bad reviews. He still owes me $864, a refund for the work he never performed. Finding his information to file Small Claims has been extremely difficult. The work he did complete took 3 times as long as he said with all kinds of excuses and was mediocre.

I don’t enjoy leaving a negative review for anyone, as I know the repercussions that may ensue; however, when it is warranted, I feel obligated to inform those who are looking at options to have work completed. Let me start by stating I intentionally seek out and promote local, small business whenever possible. With that, my wife and I hired Robert and AZ Beautyscapes to perform a massive backyard re-design project. Bottom line up front: I believe Robert is capable in completing irrigation and small landscaping/clean-up projects; however, he committed to my project, which was way over his head in terms of capability, expertise, and obtainable resources. His trustworthiness and character were severely degraded over the course of our project, and if I went into detail here with every situation we encountered, anyone reading this would think it was fabricated. It was literally a nightmare for my family when Robert quoted the project at three weeks, then it took him just shy of five months to complete… Everything I provide in this review has been discussed multiple times with Robert directly over the course of our project. I will provide an itemized list of issues we encountered throughout our project with the intent to inform, not degrade Robert or his business. Even though I would not use Robert and AZ Beautyscapes again, I urge anyone considering him to assess the level of difficulty of your proposed project and keep in mind the capability of Robert and his workers. - Robert used our $10,000 deposit to buy a truck; therefore, he couldn’t purchase the materials needed, so he was floating other jobs to help pay for our project. - Arrived late most days; some days did not show up. No communication as to his schedule changes. - Did not stay on site to oversee/supervise his day laborers. Gave them guidance and then departed for the day. Problems arose daily; however, was unable to communicate (language barrier) with many of the workers, as we are not a Spanish speaking family. This led to many pieces of work having to be ripped out and redone to be completed correctly and within our desired intent. - On multiple occasions, Robert posted a help wanted ad on Craigslist and would give out our address to interested laborers without meeting them and vetting them before allowing them to be around our family. I had frank discussions with Robert that he was not to put my family in that type of position again; however, he did this again at least two more times that I confirmed. One worker ended up being a safety concern to my family and was asked to leave, while others he never paid. Some of these laborers returned to our house looking for payment and Robert was nowhere to be found. The fact Robert disregarded the safety of our family and my constant demands that he not conduct business this way, was one of the most concerning character flaws that I just cannot look past. Please consider your family when Robert brings a crew to your property for work. Don’t get me wrong, some of his workers were great and extremely friendly/professional; however, he had such a high turnover rate (because he was not paying them) that we often had new personnel at our house each day. - He states that he stands by his work; however, we are not satisfied with the synthetic grass (turf) installation he provided. This was a $6,000 project, and because he did not want to do it correctly, there are patches of turf all over the place and he would not address it. We now have to look for another company to come out and rip our turf out, we will need to purchase more, and have it installed correctly. - Robert had never attempted a sunken trampoline and later admitted such. The area was a construction zone for so long that our kids were unable to play in our backyard for such an extended period of time. When no end to the project was in sight, we let them play down there when the workers were gone for the day. Our kids were falling in the trampoline hole, so we requested it be fixed for safety reasons. At first, Robert tried installing the thinnest and cheapest plywood available, which caved in when dirt was filled in. We had to provide Robert with images from google of a proper sunken trampoline installation with the appropriate cinder block materials required. We had to tell Robert how it was to be constructed and we paid for more materials out of pocket and outside of the contract, just so we could get this complete and prevent our kids from the existing safety concerns. - On multiple occasions, Robert was unable to pay his workers and was weeks behind payment. We stepped in and paid his workers directly (with cash) and had both the worker and Robert sign a cash payment receipt each time. - Robert did not keep track of the payments we made to him and had no idea what the balance of the job was when we finally reached the end of the project. He provided us with a sheet of paper with random figures annotated and indicated we had an outstanding balance of over $3,000. When I provided him with our itemized spreadsheet and copies of all bank check transactions and signed cash payment receipts, we showed Robert that we had actually overpaid him for the project by $400. He acknowledged he did not keep track of it and was not aware of the financial standing of our project. - Knowing he mishandled our entire project, Robert then went on his AZ Beautyscapes Facebook page and posted many pictures of our backyard, promoting the work he “accomplished,” while blocking us from his page to prevent our ability to provide a review and feedback of our experience with him. - I believe in providing everyone an opportunity and the autonomy to follow through with their promises; however, I also believe in holding people accountable when they do not follow through. Robert was extremely unreliable and that is unfortunate, as he has many highly rated reviews. I believe Robert can handle small, simple projects that do not require a specific trade or skillset, with the exception of irrigation work. Our large project, which included a sunken trampoline (something Robert had never done and did not understand the level of skill or the resources required to complete), a huge sandbox play area, two intricate retaining walls, large staircase, and a large turf area was beyond Robert's capability. Overall, our yard looks great and we are enjoying it; however, we had to conduct the project management that we hired Robert to do and the five months of the aforementioned issues took it's toll on our family. We still have to address the turf issue, which is going to cost another small fortune... I have provided an accurate account of our experience. Please feel free to use this to make an informed decision for yourself as you consider landscaping companies to complete your project. Robert, as you read this, all I ask is that you be honest with any future potential clients. If a job is beyond your expertise, let the homeowner know that. Your integrity and reputation should be more important to you than just securing "a job." And please refrain from mismanaging deposits and floating other jobs in attempt to make ends meet. This was a recipe for disaster from the onset and you were stuck with us holding you accountable for nearly 5 months.

On 3/20/17 we signed a contract with Robert Verdugo with Az Beautyscapes to put in a courtyard. Project to start 4/10/17. We gave him a check for $1000. Never saw him again. He had multiple excuses for not showing up. We asked for our money back 5/12/17. He agreed. Said would drop it off following week. Did not. We called him said he mailed a check 5/17/17. Never received it. Then advised did not have the funds to pay us back could we take payments. We agreed. First payment due 6/2/17 in person with cash. Again excuses for not showing up to make a partial payment.
