Architect - Washington, DC
We provide homeowners and builders with residential architecture services in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. We specialize in green strategies and suggest energy-saving and healthy options for every project. As a residential design specialist, I understand how important a home is to its owners, what enormous emotional energy and financial resources are invested in it and how unnerving it can be to be at the mercy of others in the shaping of that home. I've developed our services to eliminate as much of that stress as possible. Your home reflects who you are. It should meet your physical needs, and it should also nourish the spirit and feel like your own personal retreat. I rely on keen listening skills and creative problem-solving to create a home that reflects an owner's personality and lifestyle. I am also sensitive to time and financial constraints as I guide and translate the owner's needs, desires and vision into a high quality, highly functional design. Our process is very collaborative. It gives you real control of your project from start to finish. Unlike many residential designers and design-builders, we specialize in helping you build exactly the project you want. I rely on keen listening skills and creative problem-solving to create a home that reflects your personality and lifestyle. We listen to what you want to accomplish. This includes your budget, and the style of architecture you prefer. Typically, we start by providing you with several design concepts so you can see some big-picture options. Then, based on your review and direction, we re-design, including what you tell us you liked and discarding the rest. We continue to refine the project, re-designing every aspect until you're satisfied. Over the past 30 years, I have served as design director for several prominent, national design firms where he has 17 awards for design excellence. I have designed such Washington area landmarks as the World Bank "J" Building, Cato Institute and the National Archives II and led the planning and renovation efforts for D.C.'s Historic Eastern Market, Beauvoir School and Hotel Thayer at West Point. In addition, I have lectured and taught aspiring architects at Johns Hopkins, Howard University, University of Virginia, Catholic University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Klingle Residence | May 2008 | A young couple with 4 small children needed to expand their Northwest Washington colonial with an addition even larger than the original 2-story home, without overwhelming it. The finished project contains a large, open family room and kitchen with several sets of French doors leading to a beautifully landscaped yard. The second floor includes a master suite with balcony and two new children's rooms connected by a jack 'n jill bath and their own private play loft. The resulting home maintains its original charming street presence, and -- through sensitive massing and matching materials on the exterior -- seamlessly integrates the new and old construction. | Washington, DC |
