I guess you have to give a 1 star minimum... Dishwasher install. Took 3 hours to attempt to complete the job(which shouldn't have taken more than a hour). Unfortunately the installation was unsuccessful - he stated it must to the product that is defective. When I asked what I owed him for the install he stated he didn't feel right charging full price since it wasn't working, so he would just charge me $300 - yes $300 for an unsuccessful installation that he was not knowledgeable enough to properly install. My reaction to the $300 caused him to go down to $200.(still overpriced for the Des Moines area). He tried to educate me on looking at home advisor to see the going rate for home services. He charges the national high of $600, when the metro range is 50-200. Lesson learned here-next time I will ask pricing prior to the appointment. I paid him, and he said he would reinstall the the product after I got a replacement without charging me. After he left I researched and discovered what was done wrong - text him and he stated it a a fairly quick fix and would do it the next evening (he couldn't believe he didn't think of it earlier....excuses.....). 30 minutes prior to the scheduled follow-up appointment to fix it, he said it would be $150. The issue was the previous dishwasher was hard wired to the wall....he said it was a fire hazard (googled that later - it's not a hazard and it's still done today) so he plugged the dishwasher into the garbage disposal outlet which runs off 220v rather than 120 - this was what I found out from a google search that he had no idea of. After he stated it would be $150 I said I had the supplies to do the outlet and for him to uninstall the dishwasher - he never responded. This minutes before he was to be fix it. When I later text him that the cupboard under my sink was soaked from a leak he never responded(the waterline connection to the dishwasher was not tightened properly). I ended up uninstalling the dishwasher, installing an outlet and reinstalling the the dishwasher in less than 2 hours myself. I have learned many lessons from this and with my next project references, estimates and certification will be requested.
