BEWARE: My project was a house renovation and the cost was $30,000. The project included installation of hardware flooring in the entire house with the exception of the kitchen and 2 bathrooms which included porcelain, painting entire house, installation of vanities in both bathrooms, painting the deck, sealing the driveway, all new appliances with an extended warranty, installation of new blinds, new hardware and shower heads, paint front door and shutters and replace doggie door and screen door and installation of windowless and bar. The contractor stated the job would take 3 weeks and it has been 3 months and work not completed and contractor walked off without finishing work. The Contractor backed over my brick mailbox knocking it down and promised he would build a new one which never happened. He laid my hardwood flooring down without an underlayment and left multiple places where the sub flooring shows from gaps. The master bath vanity had to be taken out as the porcelain flooring was not completed underneath with part of it even being broken. It now has to be taken out again due to his shoddy work. He stated extended warranties purchased on dishwasher and refrigerator but would never provide receipt and per Home Depot none was purchased. Old color of paint shows through most of the walls and will have to be repainted. Screen door purchased was not the one I paid for. Hardware for showers was not ones picked out. The windowless window is not level and has to be fixed. No countertops installed but supposing ordered over 2 months ago. Left old refrigerator in kitchen was supposed to be moved to the garage. He installed new facets on the new vanities and handles pointed wrong on all 3. Deck not finished painting. Of course, he did not replace mailbox he ran over and told my insurance adjuster I asked him to knock it down which I did not. He is not licensed and probably not insured. His work is well below par even if he performed as a Handyman. He was a no show more than showing up. My cost was to include the cost of materials. However, the vanities and all flooring were put on my cc and to be deducted from the cost of the job. He was paid in full including the work not performed and then tried to get $2,900 more from me before he would finish the work. I offered him proof he had been paid in full and he owed me money. I asked for an itemization, his contractor license, contractors insurance and auto insurance as him backing into my mailbox would be property damage under his auto. He refused to provide any of the requested information. So my advice to you is to avoid this contractor at all cost. Ask your contractors license number up front and check him out on the Insurance of Commerce website. Be sure to get a certificate of insurance adding you as an additional insured.
