I had a similar experience with Steve as other reviewers. He did some roof repairs for me and his team was on time and got the job done. But I contracted him to redo my bathroom - and that's when the problems started. Steve sent someone out to take down the backing behind the shower but claimed he hadn't been able to reach my plumber to then come replace the pipes and shower faucets. I had no problem contacting the plumber (who keeps great records) who said he'd never received a call from Steve. Then came the biggie. He asked for a deposit for materials. I gave him $2500. About a month later he came by with backsplash tiles (I'd approved them) and some floor tiles (that I hadn't approved) and left them on the porch. Worth less than $300 retail. I carried them inside (having to split up the boxes due to weight) because I had no desire for neighborhood cats to find them and "use" them. That was the last time I saw Steve. (April). I tried calling, emailing, texting to ask when someone would be out to install the tiles since I had a huge hole in the wall behind the shower pipes. I managed to reach him in late May and he said one of his employees was ill. I expressed sympathy. After more calling, texting, emailing with no response, I contacted the Better Business Bureau in July but they were unable to do anything. Currently, I have a case filed with the Alabama Consumer Fraud division. Hoping I might be able to get some of that deposit back. I'm not sure which is worse...losing the money or facing the fact that someone I thought was a good person turned out to be uncaring and irresponsible.

Steve helped me with a few repairs and was great in the beginning. The most recent repair that was requested, however, has turned into an absolute nightmare. Steve looked at an entry gate for us that was not functioning and provided a quote for repair. His estimate was approved on February 23rd and a 50% deposit was sent to him immediately. Steve was scheduled to go to the property to start the work but didn't show up four days in a row, and his mailbox was full so he could not be reached. He wasn't apologetic for the multiple missed appointments, and said it was raining, and his truck broke down, but never called the customer to let them know. He didn't seem to care that he was not communicating with anyone, and not showing up when he said he would. We didn't have much of a choice to move on from him since we already gave him a deposit, so we had to stick it out. According to Steve the work could not be scheduled over the next few weeks due to weather. He finally scheduled to replace the gate on April 20th. On the 20th his electrician arrived to start the work and said he needed to replace the circuit board. This was something already known by all parties, but apparently not the electrician doing the work. Steve said it would take a few more days to complete, and will provide an update by Friday, April 23rd. On the 23rd he said they are checking on the availability of a part, and would get right back to me. This would be the last time I heard from Steve until May 17th. I called, emailed and texted Steve many, many times over those 4 weeks, which he never responded to. He read all of the text messages sent, but still decided not to respond. After weeks of trying to reach him, we assumed he had taken our deposit and run, so we had to get another contractor to complete the work. Steve called out of the blue on the 17th of May saying he would be there Friday the 21st to do the work, but I explained that we decided to go in a different direction since he hadn't responded to us in nearly a month. I since contacted him for two straight weeks asking him the charge for the little bit of time his electrician spent at the property, in hopes of recouping some of the nearly $2,000 sent to him, and he again refuses to respond. The last thing I want to do is damage anyone's reputation, but Steve had no problem taking our money and not responding to us, and clearly has no intention of returning the deposit. Hopefully posting about this will prevent someone from going through what we did.
