In May 2021, I purchased a home that Kevin Geer had fully renovated. Our home inspector uncovered a laundry list of plumbing, electrical and carpentry issues because the renovation work was done without any permits. Most of these items Kevin agreed to remedy, and most of which he did not. We agreed to settle on the house with his word that he would return later to complete those contractually agreed upon items. Here we are months later, and Kevin continues to tell us he will come to the house and then doesn't show up. And, we continue to uncover new items that he rigged that didn't surface in our inspection....such as overloading circuit breakers creating a fire hazard, removing the garbage disposal and then stuffing the pipe that led to it with plastic grocery bags. Each electrician or plumber that comes to our house is basically in awe of the wreckage he created. Today's fun item is dealing with another pipe that he rigged and it burst under our house. I wouldn't trust this man or his company to sweep the porch. Beware Kevin Geer and Geer Renovations.

Project: Build or Replace a Deck or Non-Masonry Porch Professional, courteous, personable and focus on higher standards and exceeding building codes versus merely meeting building codes. They do not try to take a customers money for added projects...they really discuss your needs, make recommendations that make sense and price the work accordingly. Quality over quantity. They are a very versatile contractor with experience in a vast array of areas of renovation. I’ve hired Kevin (Geer Renovations) for several additional projects since my first project. I highly recommend them to others and have also recommended them to my neighbors.

We cannot recommend Geer Renovations, Inc. We needed a garage built in October 2017. Note that Geer was not a licensed contractor at the time we were doing our project; only projects that exceed $30K require a licensed contractor. An additional note is that the Geer Renovations, Inc.’s legal entity was dissolved by the State of North Carolina back in August of 2017, so the incorporation no longer existed at the time of our project start. Before we knew all of this, we were asked to cut a check to Geer Renovations, Inc. as a deposit which was supposed to be used for initial permitting (which would have amounted to approximately $125 for all permits), as well as thousands of dollars for the materials. Geer had us sign a contract which stated he was supposed to start work one week later, and he never came back to measure anything out, or basically do anything he was supposed to do. He was not communicating with us or keeping us informed; we had to call him many times only to get one excuse after another as to why nothing was progressing. Two months passed by and we terminated him for non-performance and demanded our deposit back minus what we felt was fair for him to keep for his initial time to estimate and pull the zoning determination. It was the day after our termination letter reached him that prompted him to apply for the building permit. Then he told us that our entire deposit was used up by his time to get the permitting done!! Make sure if you sign a contract with Geer, that YOU buy the materials and have them delivered directly to your property. The Geer contract also called for additional, incremental payments for labor; however, it was just stated that Geer be paid just because a week happened to go by and not because any milestone accomplishments were completed, so a big caution there if you are reading over his contract – make sure your milestone expectations are clearly stated and don’t pay until after the work is done. I would not suggest giving Geer Renovations any upfront money. I would also be sure to demand that he provide a detailed list of how he is spending your hard-earned money. Use extra precaution if you decide to work with this company.
