We chose Scales Construction based on all of the excellent reviews, but were sad to find that our experience wasn’t the same. This is a long read, but we wanted to fully share the reason for our rating. We recently purchased a house that was built in the 1930s with ungrounded wiring, so we needed to rewire the entire thing. Derrick - who I believe is the owner - walked through the whole project with us and was extremely nice and courteous. We went over how we wanted the wires run, different accesses (we have an almost full basement and partial attic so we talked about running them non-invasively through the walls), where we were putting the new breaker box, etc. We had not moved into the house yet, so there were just a few boxes and a mattress, nonetheless Derrick told us that his crew was super clean and we’d hardly be able to tell they were there. This turned out to be FAR from the truth. Once the project started, Derrick called me to let me know that they did have to put a few holes in the walls because our house was oddly constructed, which was understandable. From there more and more things began to change. Despite reviewing the property beforehand, they removed a whole wood paneled room, an outdoor light, all of our baseboard heaters, and more from the scope. I was invited for a walk through before the rough-in inspection and was horrified to find that there were 45 BADLY cut holes in our walls (much more than the few I was expecting from the phone call), the wires were not run as requested in the basement, and the breaker box was nowhere near where we had discussed. Everything was covered in a thick layer of drywall dust and insulation from the holes cut in the walls, and nothing was covered to protect it from the dust, including the mattress and stove. The mattress’s sheet had been crumpled and the mattress itself had footprints on it. The porch was also covered in food trash, including cracker wrappers stuffed in one of our jack-o-lanterns. I notified Derrick and he assured me it would be taken care of, but some of the wires that they had already run (incorrectly) and the breaker box could not be moved. We begrudgingly accepted this. Our fixtures had also been stored uncovered on the hardwood floor - just in a pile. These were antique pieces one did end up broken that way. I was unable to do a walkthrough before final inspection because it was scheduled adjacent to thanksgiving and we were out of town. I did a walkthrough on my own as soon as we returned and was again, extremely disappointed. Several of the outlets were crooked and moved when I plugged things into them. The water heater and AC, two major electric users, were untouched and still had their original tube and knob. Again, since we were rewiring the house for safety, this was a big issue. Some of the lights had been removed and both doorbells were broken. The place was also still a mess - the reinstalled fixtures were covered in dust and insulation and I still find wire bits with every new cabinet I open. I notified Derrick, and he fixed a few of the minor issues, but since final inspection was already complete, demanded full payment before addressing any of the more major ones, also stating that it would cost more to do so, even though they were in the original contract. Given the amount of things left, we were not comfortable with this. We also had to fight him to remove the sqft of the room that wasn’t touched from the invoice. As we moved in we discovered more issues; the plug for the oven had been changed so that we couldn’t plug the oven in. My husband used to do contracting, and he now gets angry everytime we start a new project because he finds something “dumb” in the rewiring. We also keep blowing breakers because the new wiring apparently can’t handle a desktop computer and electric kettle plugged into the same room - which is crazy in this day and age. With the quality shown, Scales was not welcome back to attempt any “fixes”. I’d write more, but I’m at my character limit.

The project was an "in line" tankless water heater. I called most every Electrician business in the area, to be turned down for a repair visit. Two did come out. One looked at it, said what the problem was, and turned down the job. The other charged me 85 bucks to come out, trouble shoot it, and when the heating element arrived, backed out. Derrick Scales came the day after I called, arrived promptly, and I was impressed by his diligence, and professional demeanor. He not only replaced the heating element (in a cramped space), but corrected a wiring error of the initial installer! I'm not calling anyone else. His fee was more than reasonable, as well. I can't stress enough the complexity of this project, and the diligence Mr. Scales directed toward finishing the repair, and tracking down an additional problem left by someone else. I highly recommend Scales Construction, LLC, and will personally not be calling anyone else.

I can say without a doubt, that Scales Construction is a top of the notch professionally run business. I had my oven repaired in a fast manner, and the owner of the company, Derrick Scales was able to explain every step of the process, in a manner that I could understand. i recommend this company to anyone looking for a reputable electrical or construction job, for their home.
