HomeWorkz Inspection

My husband and I are in the process of buying a home in a state we have never lived in before. As part of the process we were given a list from our relator of local home inspectors we could choose to hire. We chose HomeWorkz because they had the most affordable price and the inspection came with several customer perks such as guarantees and such. We scheduled our home inspection for 10 am. Erik knew that I wanted to be present for the inspection as well as the general information of the home like the year it was built, how many square feet it was, that there was a crawl space, and more. The morning of the inspection I arrived at the home at 9:50am. When I went inside he told me that he had chance to get there earlier so he did and that he was almost finished! This man had my phone number from us texting about the inspection the previous day. Why did he not call or text me to let me know he was going earlier especially after I had stated I wanted to be present for the entire inspection? Not to mention, I have still have text messages to prove that I informed him I was going to be at the inspection. Mind you, he arrived to an inspection of a house with a crawl space in khaki pants. From what I saw on the countertop he had a bag full of tools and a couple fold out chairs. No bibs to wear for the crawl space and not even a spec of dirt on his clothes to show he actually inspected the crawl space. Before he left he went around the property and explained what needed to be fixed. As soon as I received his inspection report I sent it to my father-in-law who is a private contractor. He quickly noticed that Erik said there were no access to the crawl space. This immediately sent another red flag because there are 11, ELEVEN, crawl space vents on the exterior of the home. One of which was a larger spot for someone to actually go into the crawl space. I spoke with my realtor and we went to the home ourselves to look at these vents to see if we could open them and see under the home. Why would I buy a home for my family if it did not have a safe foundation? With my toddler on my hip I bent down and lifted one of the vents out of place with one hand. How could he say the crawl space inaccessible if I could see for myself so clearly? I brought my own flashlight and took my own pictures of the crawl space. Once we left the property my realtor called him to tell him that the crawl space was completely accessible and there was no reason he could not have inspected it the first time. We rescheduled another inspection specifically for the crawl space for 9am. This time myself, the inspector, the seller, and my realtor were going to be present. My realtor and myself arrived before 9am. As we walked down the driveway and he was already standing in the yard telling us how he was done the inspection and left the vents open for us to look through. So this was the second inspection and the SECOND time he went to the home earlier than our appointment time and completed the inspection without us being present after we said we wanted to be there! And yet again he never called to tell us he was going earlier. Obviously I was fuming. We spoke with the seller and he informed us that the inspector told him face to face and in front of his wife that we, the realtor and myself, said he had to be done with the inspection before we got there. Why on earth would I say I wanted to be at an inspection but then turn around and supposedly say he had to be done before I got there? He lied to the seller and was completely unprofessional! I would never recommend going through HomeWorkz for a home inspection. This man did not come to a scheduled inspection property prepared to do what he was paid for! How do I even trust that what he inspected on our future home is accurate?

Erik with HomeWorkz just did the home inspection for a house I am purchasing. I can't say enough wonderful things about him. He is so professional and was dressed so well for the inspection! I loved that touch. He is very knowlegable about every aspect of home repair and renovation which was great for me because I am interested in some remoding. (which I absolutley will bring HomeWorks in for!) The report was very clear and detailed with photos and a description of every single issue down to a missing outlet cover! The summery at the end and was wonderful for a person like me who doesn't know much about electrical work or insilation.I recommend HomeWorkz and I will use them again in the very near future!
